Job description

Early Childhood Lead Teaching position for the 2024-2025 school year

The purpose of the Early Childhood Lead Teacher is to create, maintain and support a passionate and challenging learning environment consisting of the expectations and standards associated with the Montessori Method of
Education and the curriculum adopted by Bozeman Summit School. The position will be Lead Teacher for our PreK and Kindergarten classroom ages 3-6.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain a superior learning environment for each child’s individual needs.
  • Direct children to stimulating and challenging activities through individual and group lessons that match their developmental and academic needs and hold each child accountable for assignments.
  • Follow and utilize BSS curriculum and the doctrines of Maria Montessori.
  • Observe and record the child’s growth through a variety of assessments.
  • Prepare and provide lesson plans in advance
  • Maintain an aesthetically pleasing and orderly classroom each day.
  • Practice excellence in classroom management skills through positive discipline and natural consequences.
  • Follow the principle that each student is a unique and gifted child. Have fun with their individuality and enjoy the opportunity to be a part of their lives.
  • Maintain excellent communications with the Head of School, Business Manager, Teachers and other staff members
  • Meet with Co-teacher and/or Assistant Teacher often to ensure smoothness and consistency in the classroom.
  • Use fair, considerate, honest, and cooperative communications when dealing with colleagues.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Participate in the update and development of the curriculum.
  • Follow all guidelines for classroom expenditures.
Maintain excellent communications with all parents:
  • Use fair, considerate, honest and cooperative communications when dealing with parents.
  • Participate in and organize all parent/staff functions i.e. workday, open houses, parent orientation, expert night, etc.
  • Prepare and hold parent/teacher conferences twice a year and other times as needed.
  • Rotate morning greeting and dismissal responsibilities with staff.
  • Show enthusiasm for and attend fund-raisers.
Other Responsibilities and Duties
  • Supervise students during assigned playground duty providing a safe, stimulating environment.
  • Supervise students during assigned lunch duty.
  • Administer CPR and First Aid if the need arises.
  • Check for maintenance needs of school buildings and grounds and report to the Business Manager.
  • Check supplies and report anything that needs to be replaced or ordered to the Administrative Assistant.
  • Participate willingly and “pitch in” if you see something or someone in need.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and conferences with parents and assist with extra school functions (i.e. Open House, potlucks, etc.).
Promote excellence through professional development and community involvement:
  • Attend workshops and conferences relating to Early Childhood Education.
  • Observe other schools for ideas and goals.
  • Periodically represent the school in professional and civic organizations.

Requirements:

 All classroom Lead Teachers are required to have a four-year college degree, no exceptions.

 Lead teacher must have or agree to complete Montessori training requirements, preferably AMS certification.

 All employees are expected to be punctual and dependable in their
attendance. Lesson plans need to be prepared and provided in any absence.

 All employees are asked to be fair, considerate, honest, trustworthy, and
cooperative when dealing with colleagues and parents.

 All employees are required to follow confidentially and privacy matters
professionally.
 All employees are required to be certified in CPR and First Aid.

Attendance
The teaching day shall commence with the Employee being in attendance at 8:00 a.m. and shall continue until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday of each week. From time to time Bozeman Summit School will hold fundraisers, enrollment and extra circular activities. These activities, and those similar in purpose and function to them, are considered part of your duties which are paid for by your salary and your attendance is required at them.

Teachers are contracted on 1-year contracts which begin in August and end in June.
