Program Overview
Sussex Technical High School seeks an individual to be the lead instructor for the Early Childhood Education CTE program. The program affords students the skills and knowledge to become educators in Early Childhood facilities or continue further education to teach in an elementary school setting.
Candidates with work experience in an Early Childhood field can be hired as a teacher and are afforded six (6) years to complete teacher certification requirements if necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
  • Hold or be willing to work towards Early Childhood Curriculum Coordinator License or Administrator License from the Delaware Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families (DSCYF) Office of Child Care Licensing.
  • Hold or be eligible for license and certification as Skilled and Technical Sciences (STS) teacher in accordance with 14 Del.C. §1559. Use link to access requirements. http://regulations.delaware.gov/AdminCode/title14/1500/1559.pdf
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
  • Two (2) years of college or technical training plus six (6) years of work experience of which two (2) must be within the last five (5) years.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Lead Early Childhood Education Career and Technical Education (CTE) program by recruiting students, coordinating with Department of Education (DOE) representatives, local colleges, and Advisory Board members.
  • Coordinate with on-site early learning program administration and staff to provide students training and contact hours in the early learning center and monitor student performance when assisting in the Early Learning Center
  • Consult with the program advisory committee for the purpose of evaluating and updating the curriculum and course of study.
  • Deliver instruction in courses and content that prepare students for a career field of Early Childhood Education, including human growth and development and the basics of pedagogy, State of Delaware Office of Child Care Licensing requirements, contemporary issues in education, Health, Safety and Nutrition in Early Childhood Education, Exceptionalities, Classroom management, Developmentally Appropriate Practices (to include guidance, curriculum and interactions with young children) and use of the Delaware Institute of Excellence in Early Childhood Education training modules.
  • Establish clear objectives for all units, lessons and projects and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques to address diverse student learning styles, needs and interests.
  • Use career-related and instructional technology to enhance student learning and expand learning opportunities.
  • Assess student learning on a regular basis, provide effective feedback to students and use data to inform adjustments to instruction and/or student supports.
  • Enter student attendance, grading and other required information in a timely manner.
  • Supervise and prepare students for Career Technical Student Organization membership (Educators Rising) and events.
  • Collaborate with the CTE Coordinator to enhance and expand cooperative education opportunities.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Participate in IEP and 504 plan meetings for assigned students.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Ten (10) month teacher position.
Salary and Benefits: Pension and benefit eligible position. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience according to state and local salary schedules. Additional stipend available for advisement of Career Technical Student Organization (Educators Rising).
