Job Duties
The purpose of the Early Childhood Assessment Coordinator is to support the effort to build and strengthen Virginia’s approach to support the use of age-appropriate assessments and data in Early Childhood classrooms. This position will provide strategic leadership and oversight to the expansion and implementation of Early Childhood Assessments, including but not limited to Virginia’s Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP), the Virginia Literacy Partnership Assessments, and other formative assessments that support aligned, high-quality preschool learning experiences in all publicly-funded classrooms, including Virginia Preschool Initiative, Early Childhood Special Education, Head Start, child care, and others. This position will serve as a primary point of contact for assessment partners, program leaders and teachers, and researchers, as well as support cross-coordination with other VDOE teams that support early learning assessment efforts. This position will support efforts to align statewide tools that are related to assessments, including early learning and development standards and to support local strategies for improving care and instruction in all classrooms, with a specialized focus on family day home and child care classrooms and family engagement. This position will support program implementation, contract administration, data collection and analysis, and communications related to Early Childhood Assessments, and will work closely with other leaders within the Division of Early Childhood Care and Education to measure and support a unified vision of quality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate Early Childhood instructional practices, including key tools such as curriculum, assessment, classroom observation and feedback.
- Knowledge and understanding of Early Childhood development, quality measurement and improvement, effective instructional practices and models for Early Childhood programs,
- Knowledge and/or experience in administration and/or management of the private child care sector preferred,
- Knowledge of the Virginia Preschool Initiative program and other Early Childhood state and federal grant guidelines, and Early Childhood Special Education program is preferred,
- Knowledge and/or experience in the use of Virginia’s current quality rating and improvement system (VQB5) preferred,
- Proficiency and experience in preparing and presenting technical and complex information to various audiences, including training materials for webinars and face-to-face presentations for educators and program leaders,
- Experience working in multilingual communities is preferred,
- Ability to analyze and define problems and apply problem-solving techniques to complex care and education issues,
- Ability to manage multiple assignments with critical deadlines and to work collaboratively in a team situation,
- Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and online data collection systems, and
- Ability to travel statewide to provide technical assistance to diverse stakeholders.
Additional Considerations
- Experience in administering child care, publicly-funded preK programs, state grants, federal grants, and contracts is preferred.
