Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early Career Geologic Hazards Geologistas part of our geohazard practice in The Woodlands, TX office. Geosyntec’s geohazard team focuses on exciting Geologic Hazards projects across North America. Our projects involve focused review of high-resolution LiDAR, GIS analysis, and fieldwork to map and assess Geologic Hazards. Our staff work in both a fun and fast-paced office environment and on field assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Field and office work associated with geotechnical, geologic hazard, and geological site investigation and characterization;
  • Development, installation, and management of monitoring instrumentation;
  • Review of remote imaging datasets and existing hazard databases;
  • Mapping and management of geologic information in ArcGIS databases;
  • Delineation and characterization of surficial processes, such as landslides, fluvial morphology, subsidence, karstic terrain, and overland erosion;
  • Data mining of geological and GIS data from public sources;
  • Report writing and figure preparation;
  • Fieldwork associated with geohazard assessment, design, and construction services; and
  • Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities;
  • Collaboratively work in teams with technical and administrative professionals.
  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, CPR training, and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 50% (may include travel away from a home office, long workdays, and work during the weekend). May involve hiking for several miles over uneven terrain in remote locations.
  • Overnight travel: Varies based on assignments.
Education and Licensure:
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, geological engineering, or geomorphology. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Geologist in Training (GIT) certification. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of prior professional experience in geological/geotechnical consulting or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Strong fundamentals in geology theory and practice. (required)
  • Working knowledge of GIS, MS Word, Excel, and related software; (required)
  • Knowledge of applied software (e.g., SLIDE, gINT, AutoCAD, etc.). and/or numerical methods using spreadsheets. (preferred)
  • Internship(s), co-op position, or prior work experience relevant to the position. (preferred)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
