The Montclair Cooperative School is seeking a progressive, energetic Early Ages Teacher to join our dynamic team for the 2024-2025 school year.
The Co-op seeks candidates who have a rapport with and appreciation of children in this age group, an ability to be resourceful, flexible and creative and a desire to work collaboratively. An understanding of progressive education practices and a masters degree in education or other relevant major is preferred.
Founded in 1963, the Montclair Cooperative School (the Co-op) is an independent, progressive, co-educational school, serving approximately 135 students from Early Ages through eighth grade. We are a community of students, teachers and parents dedicated to creating a diverse and nurturing environment where children flourish intellectually, creatively and emotionally while developing exceptional social skills and a deep sense of community responsibility. The Co-op’s whole-child curriculum is interdisciplinary, emphasizing inquiry, diversity, critical thinking and deep understanding, while supporting individualized social and emotional growth.
Requirements:Summary
Provide a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize and provide developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs; plans and implements curriculum and education for children ranging in age from 2.5-3.5 years.
- Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children.
- Plan and prepare classroom settings; oversee safety and educational programs; supervise children in the classroom; provide a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.
- Maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child's family relationships.
- Write and compile individual assessments of each child's development, child attendance, and related reports.
- Participate in professional development opportunities related to early childhood teaching methods, as appropriate.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Masters Degree Preferred
- Prior experience working with this age group.

- Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques.
- Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
- Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum and teaching methodologies.
- Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth.
- Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline.
- Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Ability to persuade and influence others.
