Department: Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

Job Title: Durable Medical Equipment Technician

Reports To: DME Manager

Job Summary: The Durable Medical Equipment Technician performs a variety of support duties within the DME department. The work performed in this position helps ensure patient receipt of Durable Medical Equipment through the retail location and DME closets in the health system.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with receiving inventory and unpacking, assembling, verifying packing lists and stocking inventory in the DME storefront.
  • Assist with delivering stock to all closets and ensuring closets are in good physical condition.
  • Be knowledgeable of all equipment including walkers, wheelchairs, nebulizers, oxygen, bath items, etc. This includes assembling, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, cleaning, etc.
  • Deliver items as needed to customers from the DME storefront. This will also include demonstration in the safe and proper use of the equipment and obtaining required signatures. This will require a high level of professionalism as there may often be the potential for unsanitary situations and insect infestations.
  • Delivery items as ordered by Hospicare. This will require a high level of empathy and professionalism due to the sensitive nature of these deliveries.
  • Assist with cleaning and repair of rental equipment and completing required documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and organized warehouse and facility. This may include minor maintenance duties and repairs.
  • Ensure the company vehicle is clean and well-maintained and notify supervisor of any issues with vehicle.
  • Maintain a clean driving record in accordance with Health System requirements. Obey all traffic and parking laws and regulations when driving the company vehicle.
  • Complete all required certifications and trainings.
  • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers at all times.
  • Complete necessary paperwork to ensure Medicare and insurance guidelines are met when applicable.
  • Able to understand and follow all HIPAA requirements.

This position requires excellent customer service skills, both internal and external, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal communication skills combined with the ability to multitask, use of manual and power tools, typing/keyboarding skills, and basic math skills. This position requires a high level of trustworthiness and professionalism as the Service Technician will be entering patient's homes on a daily basis. The Service Technician will also need to be empathetic and personable as they will often be the first/only contact with the DME company.

Educational Requirements: High School Diploma plus experience with DME equipment preferred.

Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 50-100 pounds, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, as well as repetitive use of hands and fingers.
