Job description

At Dura-Line, we aspire to create a more connected world, because we believe every company, every community, every person deserves the chance to advance their lives through better access to high-speed broadband. We take pride in our state-of-the-art quality products and being recognized a key partner with all of the major telecommunications companies across the world. In one year, Dura-Line produced over 1.4 billion feet of digital network infrastructure. Dura-Line creates what connects us. Every time you pick up your cell phone, log into the internet, or use your i-anything, it's because our HDPE pathways protect that delicate string of glass called a fiber optic cable that carries everything from precious pictures of your puppy to the latest sports scores. Your safety, health, family, work, entertainment...your whole life; that's our connection.

Dura-Line is currently hiring an experienced Engineer Manager for our Salt Lake City (Extrusion) site. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering and project management background to champion the site's lean manufacturing initiatives and manage critical capital expenditure projects.

As the Engineer Manager, you will be responsible for identifying and implementing CapEx projects with an eye towards increasing production output and decreasing lost time. This includes preparing and administering the site's annual budget, developing the economic justification for projects, sourcing and managing contractors and creating and monitoring schedules and budgets from kick-off to capitalization. Your strong time management and self-direction skills will be instrumental in ensuring the successful implementation of multiple concurrent projects.

In this critical role, you will initiate and implement technical improvements of manufacturing processes that affect employee safety, equipment efficiency, reliability, and product quality. Your ability to effectively collaborate with the maintenance, production, quality, and shipping departments will allow you to identify and resolve problems that directly affect the plant's performance.

In conjunction with the Plant Manager, you will coordinate monthly cap-ex reviews, actively identify efficiency gaps, and find optimization opportunities. This role is responsible to create Preventative Maintenance plans and LOTO procedures to support the commissioning of new equipment with the maintenance department. You will also be responsible for assisting in the implementation of Predictive Maintenance programs, to reduce downtime and unexpected repair costs.

We need someone with strong project management and documentation skills to ensure compliance with corporate and financial reporting requirements. You will need a strong business acumen, lean manufacturing experience, a passion for continuous improvement and a positive, team promoting attitude. Are you up for the challenge?

What else can help you succeed in this role?

A successful track record of managing capital projects over $100K, a strategic focus, and organizational skills to identify and prioritize the most critical and impactful issues and opportunities to drive long-term success. You must be able to synthesize data and summarize outcomes to provide recommendations on a compliant path forward.

Must have excellent communication as it will require you to outline the process and manage the project and influence and engage employees. You must have empathy, be a respectful and humble leader. We empower you to be a change agent, empower people, and foster a culture of continuous improvements and setting up best-practice standards across all shifts. We are a people-centric company, and collaboration is needed to succeed.

We are looking for a creative thinker and problem solver with strong organizational skills. An engineering degree is required for this role, with a P.Eng designation being an asset. Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Excel, SmartSheets, AutoCad), and experience using an ERP System (SAP is a plus) are required for this role. A background in manufacturing with a 'boots on the floor' mentality, and a history of implementing standards and job instructions is key to be successful.

What do we offer?

  • We offer 401k with 6% company match (company will automatically contribute an extra 3% of your plan-eligible pay to your 401k). Total potential Orbia contribution equal to 9% of your plan eligible pay annually
  • Multi-tier benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision) that you can tailor for yourself and dependents which includes Employer paid Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, & Life Insurance
