JOB SUMMARY
Incumbent will serve as Dual Recovery Specialist for Full-Service Partnership (FSP) services and subsequent ACT-like treatment for eligible adults with serious mental illness in Contra Costa County. The Dual Recovery Specialist provides substance abuse education and relapse prevention strategies and implements social model interventions in the milieu. The Dual Recovery Specialist is knowledgeable about abstinence based as well as harm reduction strategies and understands the interactions between psychiatric illness and substance abuse. The Dual Recovery Specialist promotes higher levels of wellness, stability, and quality of life, assists in the prevention of acute psychiatric or substance abuse relapses, and assists the client to lessen the debilitating effects of substance abuse and mental disorders. The Dual Recovery Specialist utilizes best practices in psychiatric, substance abuse, prevocational, nursing, and social skills, and illness management techniques with a strengths-based approach, consistent with principles of CCISC and ACT. Incumbent also provides case management services and serve as liaison with Probation, where applicable.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interacts therapeutically with clients in the milieu and in the community and demonstrates boundaries consistent with professional standards. Provides engagement and outreach to current or potential clients in the community.
• The majority of FSP services are provided in the community and client residences, and requires client transportation in personal and/or company vehicles. Provides on-call, after-hours, and weekend/holiday services as required by contract.
• Performs assessments of clients and presents at Daily Organizational/Morning Meetings and Individual Treatment Team Meetings.
• Provides expertise in the areas of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders to interdisciplinary team.
• Provides service coordination / case management for a shared group of clients including coordinating and monitoring activities of the treatment team. Cooperates with Program Supervisor and Program Manager in rotating client visits/assignments with the treatment team. Develops, evaluates, and implements treatment goals and plans in conjunction with the treatment team.
• Provides individual supportive coaching in all areas of clients’ life, as well as education of symptom management in consultation with assigned county psychiatrist and nurses. Sets priorities and reacts appropriately to emergency situations.
• Introduces clients to Common Ground software, assisting clients in completing the Common Ground Health Report before medical office visits.
• Skills necessary to provide effective counseling, therapy and clinical services, and the ability to successfully work as a member of a treatment team.
• Knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment techniques. Behavioral management techniques and crisis intervention skills.
• Knowledge of symptoms and treatment of people suffering from co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders, CCISC principles and FSP model of service delivery and the ability to implement such services.
• Possess skills necessary to provide effective counseling, therapy and clinical services, and the ability to successfully work as a member of a treatment team.
• Coordinates the full range of client’s needs. Provides brokerage, linkage, and advocacy to ensure resources and services are accessed in a timely manner, providing community-based services in client’s residence as needed.
• Conducts and oversees psychoeducational groups as directed by Program Supervisor and/or Program Manager.
• Performs shift management duties in coordination with other FSP Central staff as directed by Program Supervisor
and/or Program Manager. Functions as assistant to shift manager when assigned.
• Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Sociology, Social Work or similar field
• Possess or be in the process of obtaining certification for substance abuse treatment as CAADAC, CASS or similar professional
• At least one year’s experience working in a social service setting serving individuals with mental illness.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software.
• Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations.
• Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.

PAY RANGE: $22 -$ 26 / HOURLY
