Job description

Direct Support Professional - Day Program
As a DSP at HALO, you will support people we serve both on-site and in the community. In this role you will plan, organize, and facilitate the active participation of people we serve in daily activities, assist with quality of life issues and provide training and support as needed. Additionally, you will monitor the individuals within the community day services program to ensure implementation and documentation of supported persons' programs. Each day, you will carry out a variety of rewarding work where you will play an integral role in the success of the company and our mission to support people to live a rich and meaningful life. Working hours are generally Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 AM to 4 PM.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Ensure timely completion of all participant paperwork, including daily attendance and documentation data on all goals and supports developed with participant.
  • Assist and support participants’ independence in preparation of meals and snacks as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to all mandated reporter, OMIG guidelines, and Medicaid guidelines.
  • Implement positive and proactive behavior management techniques and interventions as identified in participants’ behavior intervention plans.
  • Provide input regarding development of appropriate goals for participants, incorporating participant choice.
  • Collaborate with program manager(s) and administration regarding participants’ programming needs and concerns on a daily basis.
  • Ensure participants are actively involved in their own daily program, both in individual and group activities
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work environment.
  • Participate in all required on and off-site training upon hire and as routinely required.
  • Maintain professional communication with co-workers as well as participants’ parents/guardians, employers, staff, and other stakeholders, as needed.
  • Assist with personal care activities (including taking participants to the toilet) as needed; support participants’ complete grooming and hygiene activities independently.
  • Maintain agency mandated crisis intervention and other related trainings deemed mandatory or relevant by Anixter Center.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Computer knowledge, including but not limited to Windows, Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with co-workers, colleagues and other provider agencies.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to relate/work with diverse groups, community agencies, schools, and the general public.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on detail.
  • Ability to follow directions and strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • A valid NYS driver's license and own transportation
  • Ability to pass the NYS Justice Center fingerprinting requirements and background check.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)
  • Associates degree in the health and human services field.
  • One-year experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
