The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, performance, and reporting test results.
- Each individual performs only those high complexity tests authorized by the laboratory director, requiring a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
- Each individual performing high complexity testing must----
(1) Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
(2) Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested the same way as patient specimens.
(3) Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
(4) Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s selected acceptable level of performance.
(5) Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
(6) Document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
Job Summary: The Urinalysis Technician is responsible for various duties related to the collection, processing, reporting, and recording of urinalysis samples submitted on or off-site. The work involves the collection of urine samples per the agency's policies and procedures and recording data during the collection process. In fulfilling these duties, the incumbent performs the following duties independently:
Responsibilities:
• Monitors patient's urine specimen collection by direct observation.
• nurse reports any unusual specimens received or patient incidents related to the leaving of the specimen.
• Completes incident reports.
• Retrieves intake and other urines from the reception area daily.
• Completes lab requisition forms in duplicate for all urines collected. Packages specimens for lab.
• Records urine test results on patient U/A record sheet.
• Checks supplies regularly and submits requests for orders as necessary.
• Helps maintain an orderly environment.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and collaborate with other staff in inpatient treatment as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Associate degree or higher preferred
• Medical laboratory experience preferred
• Familiarity with issues specific to addiction and recovery.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
