Zepf Center has been serving the Lucas County community for nearly 50 years. We are the leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Northwest Ohio. Services include adult and child psychiatric, substance abuse, case management, residential, Crisis Care, and therapy programs, as well as career development and wellness services. Zepf Center also offers primary care medical services to our patients to contribute to their continuum of care. Zepf Center is a trauma-informed agency and environment for both patients and staff.


General Summary

We are currently seeking a Full-Time Drug Court Counselor to provide a wide range of community support and coordination of services to people experiencing mental illness and to ensure their needs are addressed. According to State, Agency and Program policies, guidelines and professional requirements, this position provides direct services to assigned consumer with major mental illness and a substance abuse diagnosis. These services are provided to assist in resolving or minimizing the effects of a consumer’s impairment through a wide range of skills, including assessment, monitoring, crisis intervention, education, linking and training in community resources, assistance in daily living skills, and obtaining necessary services for meeting basis human needs and entitlements. This position participates in a treatment team and maintains professional record keeping. It is expected and essential for all employees to meet their regular work schedule which may include rotation of shifts. Excessive absenteeism and/or tardiness will not be tolerated. All employees within this department will be required to learn all aspects of their position even when tasks/responsibilities are divided among staff member and/or shifts. The Drug Court Counselor acts as liaison between Zepf Center and the Lucas County Felony Drug Court and Family Drug Court to ensure a continual positive working relationship, by coordinating the progress information needed for clients receiving SUD services at Zepf Cent and are involved in the Lucas County Drug Court System.


Drug Court Counselor Specific/Individual Competencies
  • Ability to be imaginative and innovative in developing effective changes to enhance the agency’s operations.
  • Ability to facilitate goal setting in a patient-centered, team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge and skills to facilitate indicated treatment for people who are chemically abusive or dependent to identify need for referral for additional or alternative treatment.
  • Ability to use data to provide direction to enhance patient services.
  • Ability to develop strategies to enhance agency contracts.
  • Ability to organize necessary information for agency reports and ensure that all deadlines are met appropriately and on a timely basis.
  • A mature, responsible individual who can respond and adapt positively and productively to the changing needs of the criminal justice population.
  • Must demonstrate individual and group counseling skills, knowledge or mental illness and substance abuse.
  • Must be able to work a schedule that may include evenings.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to define problems, analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Must demonstrate personal integrity, the ability to develop and work as part of a team, and a commitment to the mission of the agency.
  • Must establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset, and at times hostile

Position Qualifications:
  • Drug Court Counselor position requires a Bachelor Degree in Behavioral Science (social work, counseling, criminal justice).
  • Requires a LSW, LISW, LPC, or LPCC.
  • Requires at least 1 year of experience in the criminal justice system. Preference will go to those who have 2+ years of experience in the criminal justice system.
  • Experience required: At least 1 year working with individuals with substance abuse and/or mental health preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a background to work with federal probation and BOP clients.
  • CPR and First Aid trained, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) trained or following hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
