A Driver Trainee assists certified drivers by assembling load deliveries and preparing trucks for delivery to customer job site. Provides delivery site support. As a CDL trainee, associate is responsible for performing previously assigned job duties while building product knowledge and familiarity with vehicle operation and safe driving procedures. Responsible for learning company, state, local and DOT regulations.
DUTIES INCLUDE
- Performs load-building, and learns how to determine the appropriate weight, composition, and placement of load based on customer order and capacity of delivery vehicle to ensure load is balanced and safe for hauling.
- Validates loads against customer invoice to ensure the correct materials and the quantity of materials are accurate.
- Assists with unloading the truck at the delivery site and interfaces with customers in a positive, professional manner.
- Attends required training courses, completes assignments, and prepares for driver certification assessments.
- Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required.
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to learn all aspects of Driver duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and clean driving record. Must be able to obtain a Forklift certification. Must demonstrate a good work ethic, be able to pass a MVR report, obtain a DOT medical card, and have management support in order to qualify for company paid CDL training courses.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
- Must be able to physically operate delivery vehicles (climb up and down into cab, twist torso for 360-degree visibility, use arms to operate controls, etc.).
