Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Mixer Truck Driver Mentor for our HM South Texas Concrete facility located in Houston, TX.

What You'll Get To Do

  • Safely drive truck to and from destination applying knowledge of DOT driving regulations and area roads.
  • Check loads to ensure product is being hauled in an appropriate and safe manner to adjust to desired level
  • Estimate slump of concrete
  • Verify directions with plant personnel before leaving the plant to ensure delivery to the correct customer and job site
  • Strive to meet customer expectations
  • Keep equipment in acceptable condition of cleanliness using approved cleaning materials and supplies
  • Maintain radio contact with supervisor/dispatch to receive and transmit delivery instructions
  • Assist other company employees as needed
  • Complete pre and post trip inspections on truck equipment and supplies, such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water
  • May perform minor roadside repairs, such as installing light bulbs
  • Maintain good working knowledge of the traffic routes of the city
  • Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management
  • Adhere to all company, DOT and OSHA rules and regulations at all times
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned

What We Are Looking For

  • Ability to train drivers monitoring progress. Document training issues and training reporting to Site Supervisor and Production Supervisor. Document training progress including concerns and focus points in trainee’s training binders. Team up with Site Supervisor and Production Supervisor to be involved in progress check points.
  • Be the eyes and ears on the yards and job sites. If you see anything unsafe or harmful, report it immediately to Dispatch, Site Supervisor and Production Supervisor and/or the Safety Department.
  • Assist with startups in the mornings with the help of Site Supervisor and Production Supervisor as needed. Focus on minor repairs and assist with pre-trips if someone is having a problem.
  • Troubleshoot truck issues and report to Site Supervisor when applicable.
  • Assist with spare truck parts inventory and PPE needs with the assistance of Site Supervisor and Production Supervisor.
  • Work together with Site Supervisor on safety meeting topics and other known concerns and hazards.
  • Assist with truck inspections with the help of Site Supervisor and Production Supervisor.
  • Assist Site Supervisor and Production Supervisor with the NRMCA inspections of mixers at the plant

Driver Mentor minimum qualifications:

  • No accident or incidents with monetary cost to the company in the last calendar year.
  • No motor vehicle accidents or incidents in the last calendar year.
  • No lost time accidents or incidents in the last calendar year.
  • Clean record according to our progressive discipline policy.
  • No more than 3 points in the No Fault Attendance policy.
  • Smith system trained.
  • Minimum of 2 years of ready-mix driving experience.
  • No more than 3 lost loads for negligent acts within a rolling 12 months.
  • Mixer must stay in an acceptable condition according to DOT and cleanliness standards.
  • Since part of a DM role is building a relationship with the driver, it's important for the DM to show respect and be a positive remodel to those they are training. Showing respect can help create a trustworthy environment and is a good representation of the company.
  • Successful completion of NRMCA CDP Certification
