UMIAQ Environmental provides a comprehensive suite of environmental consulting services, which include documentation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, construction and access permitting, environmental site assessments, stakeholder engagement, sampling and remediation of contaminated sites, management of hazardous waste, wetlands monitoring, and more. This is a full-time position located in Anchorage, Alaska. UMIAQ Environmental’s main office is in Anchorage, from which our talented professional, technical, and seasonal staff lead projects throughout the State.

 

The Drafter/GIS Specialist’s goal is to develop accurate and visually pleasing project drawings for use in plans, reports, and permit applications. The Drafter will be responsible for calculating project footprints or other items of interest and displaying as a table on drawings. The Drafter may also be asked to assist with data management and development of flow charts, flyers, and outreach materials. Essential to this role are strong communication skills and an understanding of the software needed to accomplish tasks presented. 


Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Prepare visually pleasing project drawings for use in plans, reports, and permit applications.
  • Follow existing procedures for document review, organization, and file structure.
  • Inventory data needed to complete requested drawings, work to obtain data, and communicate when data needs to be purchased or is not available.
  • Intermediate to advance skills in the MS Office suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully to all coworkers, clients, and stakeholders.  

Develop of flow charts, flyers, and outreach materials, or assist with management of data, as assigned.

  • Demonstrable ability to use GIS (or AutoCADD) software to prepare and modify drawings, including accurate measurement of dimensions.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity with using the internet to search for and download data needed for drawings.
  • Ability to inventory data needed to complete requested drawings and communicate when data needs to be purchased or is not available.
  • Intermediate to advance skills in Adobe and the MS Office suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Planning, organizing, and prioritizing workload are primary duties. The Drafter must be flexible and capable of adapting to changing timelines.

Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.


    • An Associate’s degree in technical drafting or design, or minimum 2 years of related work in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).
    • MS Office Suite: Word and Excel

Associate’s degree in technical drafting or design, or minimum 2 years of related experience.

 

 

Authorized Driver Requirement:  Employee must have a valid driver’s license and three (3) year clean driving record. Employee must follow all Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.

All Employees are subject to a Non-DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program.  Employees must pass a Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening, and must follow all Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
