Job description

The Seasonal Park Ranger uses hands on approach, taught by experienced Ranger staff. The Seasonal Ranger will receive daily training in Resource Protection, Resource Education and Public Use Land Management.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Seasonal Park Ranger:

  • Assist with opening and closing park sites and monitoring restricted access after hours
  • Work with Staff and Volunteers to execute DPR Events
  • Respond to public inquires reference park resources and DPR Permits
  • Engage with DPR Constituents daily at various DPR locations
  • Comply with personnel policies for Ranger Staff

Minimum Qualifications/Education/ Experience:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Available to attend all day trainings and work every day from April thru August 2024
  • At least 2 years of College Education and/or related work experience
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations that apply to the protection of park resources
  • Takes direction and feedback with ease and implements tasks with a positive attitude
  • Creative, hard-working, energetic, organized, professional, flexible, and team oriented
  • Valid State Issued Driver’s License
  • Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends

Salary Range: Seasonal Park Ranger:$ 24.00/hr.

Area of Consideration: This position is part of the Pathway to Government Employment Partnership Program. District residents who received a high school diploma from the District of Columbia Public Schools or a District public charter school or received a GED or its equivalent from the District of Columbia will receive priority consideration for this entry-level position. Applicants must provide a high school transcript, GED certificate, high school diploma, or other applicable documentation along with verification of District residency before the District government may extend a final offer of employment.

Position Designation: This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and periodic Criminal Background Checks and Traffic Records Checks (as applicable). This position is also subject to mandatory pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.”
