It all begins with the unselfish decision to donate - an eye donor has passed away and wishes to help others through the gift of sight. This donation leads to the miracle of restored vision for the person who receives that gift through corneal transplantation. And right in the middle of this beautiful story is Saving Sight!
Our mission-driven organization helped save the sight of thousands of people world-wide last year. If you want to make a difference in the lives of others, like details and logistical challenges, then this is the opportunity for you! A career at Saving Sight means giving healing to cornea recipients, providing hope and peace to families in mourning, and building a legacy for donors by being a steward of their gift. While this role can be a tough one, it's one that you can celebrate in knowing you are impacting the lives of others in the community and nationally, every day.
The Donor Services Coordinator is the front line where the donation journey begins. In our hybrid call-center like environment, a Donor Services Coordinator is responsible for receiving and entering initial referrals, determining preliminary suitability, presenting families that have recently lost a loved one with the opportunity of eye donation over the phone, and navigating recovery logistics with our recovery teams and partner organizations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Receive and enter incoming referrals from outside agencies, including organ procurement organizations, funeral homes, and medical examiners.
- Perform preliminary donor screening with referring contacts and via electronic medical record access to determine suitability for donation.
- Present donation to families or designee while providing support and informed information regarding eye donation opportunity.
- Complete appropriate authorization (according to state Uniform Anatomical Gift Act) or disclosure form with donor family or designee
- Complete donor risk assessment interview with donor family member or someone familiar with the potential donor's medical and social history.
- Coordinate recovery logistics with recovery technicians and partner organizations.
- Follow department best practices and provide exceptional customer service with stakeholders including hospital staff, organ procurement organizations, funeral homes, medical examiners, and others on a constant basis.
- Assist with other functions and projects as directed by Director of Donor Services
