Job Summary

The Thrift Shop Donation Processor Specialist serves as the entry point of all donated merchandise for processing and preparing for the retail sales floor. Duties include, but are not limited to, accepting, sorting, and pricing donated items. Imperative that the Donation Processor Specialist has a positive personality that is welcoming and exudes the highest level of customer service. Additional duties would include initial presorting of donated items for further processing and being an integral part of the Thrift Shop Team. Performs other duties as assigned by the Thrift Shop Manager as necessary.

Specific Duties

  • Is able to perform daily any of the required job duties within the processing team, to include all requirements related to accepting donations, presorting, and pricing merchandise.
  • As needed, handle the receiving and donation process with the utmost respect and care including, greeting the donor, assisting in unloading donations, telling the Animal Humane Thrift Shop mission, and issuing a receipt, and/or entering donor information into the Donor database.
  • Ability to recognize quality merchandise and effectively seek guidance on pricing from Processing Assistant Manager.
  • Understand and comply with policies and procedures related to processing donated items including pricing guidelines and prohibited items.
  • Adhere to daily and weekly processing goals.
  • Data entry in thrift tracker on processing metrics.
  • Provide training to volunteer processors on pricing policy and procedures.
  • Through the highest level of customer service and hospitality, plants the seed for repeated business and donations to Animal Humane Thrift Shop with every donor.
  • Maintain clean and well-organized processing area.
  • Adhere to and implement daily, all employee policies, procedures, and core values outlined in the Employee

Handbook and the Animal Humane Mission Statement.

  • Communicate, daily, to the Thrift Shop Manager and Processing Assistant Manager any necessary

information that relates to their respective departments.

  • Work with and effectively communicate with the Thrift Shop Manager, Processing Assistant Manager, and other processing members of the Receiving and Processing teams.

Job Conditions

· Work is performed under standard retail store conditions.

· Flexible working schedule including days, evenings, and weekends or long shifts as needed.

· Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)

· Must have a commitment to Animal Humane Thrift Shop mission.

· Must be a problem solver and be able to work with a minimum of supervision and take initiative.

· Excellent time management skills.

· Computer skills to include general typing skills.

· Ability to read and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

· Knowledge of antiques, collectibles, and interior design is helpful.

· Retail sales experience is desired.

Education

· High school diploma or equivalent are recommended.

· Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally in the English language.

· Ability to speak Spanish helpful.

Other Qualifications:

· Must be able to pass a background check.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move independently or with reasonable accommodation within the store and the community.
  • The applicant must be physically and mentally able to perform all the requirements of the job.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Able to stand, stoop, bend, or carry for extended periods.
  • Able to go up and down steps.
  • Tolerance of extreme changes in temperature and humidity.

Animal Humane may perform drug and alcohol tests for any reason at any time including the following: pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, follow-up and random.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
