The Donation Pickup/Delivery Truck Driver safely operates assigned transportation vehicle of picked up donations and food within a 30 mile radius of DesMoines.
Drivers spend 90% of their day picking up donated items ranging from food to furniture.
These items range from 25 to 75 pounds per item picked up.
The remaining part of the day includes dropping off donated product to our 3 locations along with transporting baled product to the main warehouse.
GENERAL Responsibilities
· Load; unload the movement of goods and equipment.
· Assist in loading and unloading truck manually.
· Assist with snow removal and clean up as necessary
· Partner with store and warehouse to assist in organization and clean up
· Follow outlined Truck Protocols
PLANNING AND RECORDING
· Organize assignments for the shift; prepare route sheets or other necessary documents
· Utilize driver technology to schedule and complete picks up on route
· Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers
· Maintain records, such as vehicle logs, records of cargo, or billing statements, in accordance with regulations
· Maintain truck/ mileage log according to state and federal regulations
· Read maps and follow written or verbal geographic directions, utilize mobile technology
· Obtain signature on DOT receipt documents
· Provide noted donations slips to donors
· Provide transportation services for the pickup
· Follow route assignments and properly complete required reports
· Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases or other vehicles, using organizations technology.
· Complete pre-trip inspections and notify supervisor of any equipment problems
· Maintain radio or phone contact with base or supervisor to receive instructions or be dispatched to new location
· Daily checklist of vehicle inspections
· Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition and clean.
SAFETY AND REGULATIONS
· Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
· Ensure that material is loaded to prevent loss and damage due to transit, handling or inclement weather
· Position and block around items to secure cargo for transport using provided equipment
· Load; unload the movement of goods and equipment
· Assist in loading and unloading truck manually
· Safely, accurately, and efficiently load and unload trucks and trailers
· Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers
· Position and block around items to secure cargo for transport using provided equipment.
· Follow all government and St. Vincent de Paul Des Moines safety regulations.

Preferred Skills
· 1-year commercial driving experience
· Ability to perform basic mathematical equations is preferred

Qualifications and Education Requirements
· High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Must have an Iowa drivers’ license,
· Must have a good driving record
· On-time and consistent attendance and punctuality
· Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents relating to store operations and sales
· Ability to follow instructions, adhere to policy, and make basic decisions
