Job description

Description:

AWARE supports domestic and sexual violence victims through strength-based advocacy that promotes survivors’ unique abilities, identities, experiences and healing journey. As a Shelter Advocate you maintain survivors’ self-determination and safety and are a lifeline as victims seek resources for housing, physical and mental health needs, financial support and children’s issues. Our advocates provide 24/7 shelter coverage, crisis intervention, safety planning, needs assessments, referral services and education, training and outreach activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Agreement with and adherence to AWARE’s foundational, non-discrimination practices and our guiding mission.
  • Assessment of participant’s safety needs, provide safety planning, follow-up and safety checks.
  • Demonstrate trauma-informed service, recognize emergencies and act to ensure participant and staff safety.
