JOB SUMMARY

Works with the Dome Theatre Supervisor to maintain a variety of dome theater systems and equipment, including mechanical & electronic equipment as well as computer systems. Learn specific programming languages and develop scripts and commands linking the various systems together in the presentation of dome theatre content.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with standard PC hardware and current OS software.
  • Experience with lighting, audio, video projection, or similar technical expertise.
  • Software skills using image and video editing tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable software.

  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots mechanical and electronic systems in the planetarium dome theater.
  • Learns and uses a variety of programming tools to build scripts and sequences used in theater systems.
  • Learns and operates planetarium theater systems used in the presentation of shows.
  • Learns to produce content for the Dome.
  • Maintains the status of Dome systems, schedule and perform preventative maintenance.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
  • Troubleshooting skills and techniques, specifically for mechanical and electronic equipment.
  • Basic PC hardware maintenance.

Skills and Abilities to:
  • Diagnose and repair issues with computers, video projectors, laser systems, spotlights, fog machines and other theatre systems and components.
  • Learn how to use entertainment and educational software packages such as the Adobe Suite, Digistar, Beyond, and MagicQ to create effective and engaging content.
  • Work effectively alone and in a team environment to accomplish tasks and complete projects.
  • Manage tasks and timelines to complete projects on time.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers and management, build presentations and present such in small and large meetings.


Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work in a planetarium theater environment - lighting is often very dark or flashy, and the music is often loud.
  • Must be able to access and perform maintenance on equipment in tight spaces.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for hours with minimal time for breaks.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION

  • Clark Planetarium is open 363 days/year for 12-15 hrs/day. As such, this person may be scheduled to work days, nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies and occasionally adjust standard work hours to support the needs of the Dome Theatre team.
