Summary:
This position description is a technician with machining capabilities. Our shop is not a production facility, and machines are manual. The required skill set needed specifically will be job shop skills, to include rebuilding multiple styles of pumps, machining wear rings on pumps, making new stems for valves, machining multiple start left hand threads on stem nuts, balancing impellers, boring, broaching, turning, and facing different parts for our turbines, pumps, blowers, etc.

The Technician and their assigned Supervisor will implement a formal progression program that includes performance objectives and specific developmental goals, all within the established program timeline (which includes milestones and testing for completion). A mentor will be provided to help guide the individual through the program. The technician will be accountable for the following duties: • Must be consistently at work and on time. Must be willing to work extra hours and weekends as required to meet deadlines.
Pre-Employment Drug Screen Testing • Employment with Alyeska is contingent upon successfully passing a background investigation and, in some cases, a Physical Fitness Test and Medical Exam specific to the role for which you are applying. Alyeska also requires pre-employment urinalysis drug testing for all positions. A positive drug test makes you ineligible for employment with Alyeska and on TAPS. • Please note, Alyeska does not seek or accept any genetic information as part of the drug testing procedure or any other process that could directly or inadvertently provide genetic information (family medical history).

If hired after the internship:
This is a non-exempt Technician position, working a field schedule) with a 12-hour workday (week on/week off, only dayshift). Week will consist of 40 hours of regular pay and 44 hours of overtime pay. Individuals will be hired as a technician for Mechanical Maintenance (machinist). Valdez, Alaska residency is preferred. Individuals living away from Valdez are responsible to report to their work location on time, and to report if required for unscheduled overtime.
Location Pay, 401K with 7% match, pension, medical, dental, vision, HSA Health Savings Account, FSA Flexible Spending Account, Health Maintenance reimbursement, etc.

Qualifications:
- Applicant must meet or exceed the following minimum job requirements to be considered for this position.
- Minimum of three (3) years of technical work experience in industrial operations and maintenance technical disciplines.
- Current valid driver's license
- Effective communication skills- Ability to read and implement information from technical documents, reliably document work, take notes and provide technical and detailed information to others in a clear and concise manner.
- Able to use computer systems and common applications such as Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance systems (Oracle).
- Must be proficient in the use of machine shop equipment operation. [lathes, mills, radial drill, balancer, flange facing equipment, hydraulic press]
- Must be proficient in the use of all types of gauges, micrometers, verniers, etc. Hoist fixtures, chucks, collets, steady rests. Normal hand tools for machinists. Drills, taps, honing equipment, bars.
- Must possess good mechanical aptitude demonstrated as success in previous machine operation or like activities.
- Working knowledge of large bore valves, valve actuators, piping systems and components
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferences:
- Experience in writing procedures and creating and maintaining records, including maintenance records and work logs.
- Experience in using multi-step procedures for complex tasks.
- Experience working in a marine environment, in adverse weather conditions.Working knowledge of large bore valves, valve actuators, piping systems and components

- Complete the developmental plan within the set timeline.
- Meet applicable Operator Qualification requirements.
- Must have a well-rounded knowledge of fabrication and assembly techniques, tools and equipment, materials, and shop equipment.
- Must know the working qualities of a wide variety of materials including cast iron, steel, aluminum, copper, brass and other metals and plastics.
- Follows blueprints, drawings, sketches, diagrams; determines operation methods and sequences; lays out, sets up and fabricates precision parts, tooling and fixtures to exacting tolerances and patterns and determine tooling feeds and speeds on lathes and mills.
- Performs close tolerance machining operations such as forming, boring, turning, facing, drilling, tapping, honing, etc.; must be able to perform own inspections with a critical eye to detail.
- Adjusts machine and acquires tools, fixtures, etc. as required for job; grinds or sharpens own tooling when applicable.
- Checks diameters (both inner and outer) height, depth and thickness using micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, gauges, and other precision-measuring instruments.
- Keeps all tooling in proper working. • Perform other maintenance tasks as assigned including repairs, preventive maintenance, rebuilds, pressure testing, bolt up, alignment, • Maintain and repair of rotating equipment in an industrial facility including, steam turbines, centrifugal pumps, high speed and large centrifugal compressors, pumps, meters, compressors, fans, blowers, and stationary diesel engines.
- Repair and alignment (dial and laser) of stationary rotating equipment
- Performs routine service and maintenance on equipment when required.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment and follows all company safety directives.
- May include replacement, rebuild and recertification of PSV and PRV valves.
