To advance the purpose of InterVarsity Press, the Divisional Vice President of Sales and Marketing charts the course, develops the vision, and implements plans that will propel the ministry towards increased market share and greater brand recognition. Reporting directly to the President/Publisher, the Divisional Vice President of Sales and Marketing will be a strategic thinker with proven leadership experience. Accountable for delivering measurable results that achieve and exceed revenue and margin targets, this position will be capable of contributing meaningful insight to the sales and marketing functions and plays an integral role in the overall development of the organization.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Personal:

  • Be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ: growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God's purposes in the world

Sales & Marketing Strategy Development and Communication:
  • Serve as Chief Marketing Officer of the organization, providing support in the area of marketing strategy and management
  • Develop strategies and tactics for increasing market share within existing accounts and markets, while expanding into new verticals as appropriate
  • Develop and implement annual business plans and manage to monthly, quarterly, and annual expense and revenue budgets
  • Provide leadership, direction, and management to the marketing, publicity, creative, and sales teams in a manner that ensures exceptional service to all stakeholders and produces market differentiation and competitive advantage
  • Establish clear sales metrics and benchmarks for measuring progress and maintaining focus; create a companywide marketing reporting function that can track, measure, and analyze performance against key performance indicators
  • Monitor progress against targeted strategic and operational goals, oversee development and implementation of needed corrective actions
  • Collaborate with strategic partners, SPPI, and customers to research market needs and identify possible new product solutions
  • Establish and maintain a strong network of relationships within the industry
  • Manage key customer relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities
  • Evaluate industry, market trends and contemporaries' strategies and recommend product/service positioning and pricing
  • Other duties as assigned by President/Publisher or as business needs arise

Maintain Professional Growth and Development:
  • Stay connected with industry trends and innovations in the above areas including, but not limited to book publishing, multimedia product development, customer engagement, and sales.
  • Attend training events and conferences to remain current in the above areas
  • Participate in industry-wide events that help increase cultural competency within Christian publishing

Leadership and Supervision:
  • Serve as a member of IVP's Executive Leadership Team
  • Ensure that the goals of all reporting functions align with IVP's Purpose and Values Statement, Vision Statement, Doctrinal Basis, and Strategic Initiatives
  • Partner with the President/Publisher in casting and implementing the vision for the Sales and Marketing team
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategic plan objectives, and department strategies, goals, technologies, policies, and procedures
  • Develop long-range plans with measurable objectives for assigned functions
  • Complete projects and duties as assigned by the President/Publisher
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, supervise and retain qualified staff
  • Build an effective team by facilitating strong collaboration, and championing the understanding of organizational interdependencies
  • Organize structures, roles, processes, and accountability loops to optimize resources and achieve goals, expecting direct reports to focus on organizational efficiencies
  • Ensure that the Sales and Marketing team equips IVP as a center of excellence, stewards resources, provides strategic information, and delivers value-adding services to staff

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Annually affirm InterVarsity's Statement of Faith
  • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant work experience required
  • Master's degree advantageous, preferably MBA or theology/biblical studies
  • Minimum 10 years of marketing and sales experience with a demonstrated track record of accomplishments
  • Familiarity with InterVarsity Press and its titles, authors, and other publishing partners is preferred
  • Proficient in financial analysis and establishing sales and marketing budgets and action plans
  • Strong leadership skills, able to lead change, mentor, and motivate individuals
  • Excellent track record of hiring and growing sales teams and ability to do so with speed
  • Proven success in publishing, preferable book publishing

  • Be a contributing member of the IVP community
  • Flexibility to attend the Urbana Student Missions Conference every six years, Dec 26-Jan 1, and National Staff Conference every three years (the year after Urbana), approximately Jan 2-7.
