Overview
SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Being a ministry leadership position, the Divisional Corps Lay Leadership Director (CLLD) must live a life evidencing a personal experience of salvation, growth in holiness, and a passion for leading others into a saving relationship with Jesus.
The CLLD guides the recruitment, leads training, and provides encouragement of local officers and other lay ministry leaders throughout the division.
The CLLD spends time in the corps throughout the division during the week and on Sundays, and at other times to take advantage of opportunities to support corps ministry needs. The CLLD is personally aware of every corps' strengths and weaknesses concerning current corps leadership needs and potential Lay Leadership opportunities. Support to the church leadership development process includes evaluation of needs, development of possible solutions, plan development, and leading the implementation, follow-up, and outcome assessment. These plans are developed and implemented within a team leadership environment with territorial, divisional, and corps officers and leadership development staff.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a positive and professional representative of The Salvation Army.

Local Officer Recruitment
  • Educate Corps Officers, Pastoral Care Councils, Corps Councils, and the Divisional Soldiery about the importance, benefits, and processes of making local officers.
  • Help Corps Officers to identify potential leaders and connect them with a ministry role that exercises their spiritual gifts and aligns with their talent and abilities.
  • Emphasize the recruitment and development of key local officers such as: The Recruiting Sergeant, The Corps Sergeant Major, The Young Peoples Sergeant Major, and the Corps Secretary.
  • Utilize various assessments to help place lay leaders appropriately.
  • Become familiar with soldiery in the division who are or could become local leaders.

Local Officer Processing
  • In accordance with the Orders and Regulations, in conjunction with the Corps Officer(s), process all applications for local officership.
  • Coordinate with the Divisional Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that all applicants are KeepSAfe and State law compliant.
  • Notify all relevant departments of applicants (i.e., a YPSM to the youth department).
  • Submit completed application packet to the Divisional Commander through the Divisional Program Secretary.
  • Ensure completed applications are returned to Corps with appropriate certificates and uniform trim in a timely matter.
  • Maintain a list of all current location officers in the division, ensuring that all are recorded in the Corps Management Database and Turbo stats.
  • Provide encouragement to local officers through the renewals and long-service awards.
  • Encourage local officers to participate in the annual Territorial Day of Local Officer Renewal.
  • Ensure that renewal resources are dispersed to the frontline and be a source of information to provide support through the renewal process.
  • Compile and process annual local officer long service awards.
  • Assist Corps Officers and staff in the removal of local officers' commissions from the Corps' Rolls and Management Database.

Corps Leadership Development & Local Officer Training
  • Educate and assist corps in the development of important corps leadership bodies, including but not limited to, Senior and Junior Pastoral Care Councils and Corps Councils.
  • Function as a conduit of information between DHQ and local units regarding local officership.
  • Manage the electronic resource files, collecting resources from Officers,
  • Provide local officer training through a variety of mediums including retreats, individual consultation, and Corps' workshops and webinars.
  • In conjunction with Divisional Leadership, develop a schedule of divisional training events including Soldiers' Rallies, Leadership Training Days, etc.
  • Develop promotional materials and presentations using flyers, posters, bulletins, presentations, Corps visits, and announcements at Divisional events
  • Recruit and coordinate attendance at territorial programs including, but not limited to The Arsenal and LEAD.
  • Process documents related to Volunteer check sheets, National Background Investigation forms,
  • Statement of Volunteers, Eastern Territory Registry, and NYS Department of Correctional

Service search.

Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • At least 5 years of experience in the field or related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, Ministry, or Related Field preferred.
  • A uniform-wearing Salvationist who actively serves at his/her Corps and exhibits a passion for the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and able to obtain and maintain driving privileges per The Salvation Army insurance standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Demonstrate discretion, integrity, and confidentiality in dealing with all matters.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Must complete the KeepSAfe training and other required training upon hire.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance.
  • Positive "can-do" attitude with sleeves rolled up leadership mentality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-motivated and dependable.
  • Strong time-management skills.
