Job description

Alamo Environmental, dba Alamo 1 is searching for a Divisional Safety Manager to join our growing team. This position will report to the Vice President and will be responsible for implementing and promoting a culture of safety within Alamo 1. This position is responsible for taking our existing Health and Safety program and redesign as needed to fit our growth and future endeavors, as well as implementing the program for the Division and will work closely with leadership, and their employees, to build and implement a robust and sustainable Safety culture. This position will review, interpret, and advise management on complex safety compliance and policy matters. Has a complete understanding of safety principles, concepts, practices, standards, and regulations.

Job Functions:

  • Responsible for redeveloping and overseeing the Divisions safety policies and procedures including corporate, construction, operations, and fleet.
  • Create plans and policies for construction, emergency preparedness, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment.
  • Collect data, identify, and report causes of accidents and near-misses and develop recommendations and follow-up to prevent recurrences.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry-specific regulations at all offices, job sites and facilities.
  • Conduct periodic safety audits across offices operating facilities and construction sites.
  • Provides programs that ensure a safe workplace, including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and protective equipment.

Required Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Candidate must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently. Also, must be an effective team player with a record of consensus building with internal/external parties.
  • Ability to perform and manage multiple tasks and issues simultaneously and perform assigned responsibilities at a high level in a fast-paced, often changing environment.
  • Specialized regulatory knowledge of safety (both federal and state) regulations, including OSHA.

Education/Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in the construction, demolition, or environmental fields.
  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or safety management, is preferred, however candidates with commensurate experience/professional training as well as a demonstrated track record in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies and procedures will be considered.
  • Master Safety Professional (MSP), Certified Safety Director (CSD) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certifications are a plus.
  • Strong communication and willingness to have a hands-on approach is required.
  • Detail orientated.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Travel as required.
