Serves as a Division Chief responsible for providing leadership and program direction. Serves as a member of the States Fire Leadership Team, which is responsible for the coordination and development of overall long range planning and integrating the Districts fire management program with other disciplines and interagency partners to achieve goals consistent with agency direction.
Directs and evaluates all aspects of the District's fire program to include fire management planning. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with public and private entities.
Accepts input from resource specialists in related fields such as forestry, ecology, wildlife, etc. and refines or develops more specific guidelines to incorporate the protection of these resource values into fire management activities.
Ensures fire training program is maintained and is in alignment with those of cooperating entities. Provides leadership and coordination for aviation management program elements.
Ensures that adequate review, analysis and reporting are completed after incidents/accidents/near miss incidents. Evaluates risk and recommends and implements mitigation to reduce the risk of future incidents
Supervises and provides leadership through subordinate supervisors to fire staff in the assigned district. Evaluates and develops performance standards. Responsible for development of a mentoring program. Manages and oversees contractors and ensures work performed meets the standards necessary for payment.
Coordinates and negotiates the development of local annual operating plans to implement cooperative fire protection agreements with federal, tribal, state and local agencies.
Serves on inter-agency zone boards and committees and may serve on local multi-agency coordinating groups.
Ensures field inspections are conducted to ensure objectives are met. Develop cost share methodology and tracking for multi-jurisdictional fires. Serves as Duty Officer/POC for the District and State during periods of fire activity.
Directs and supervises all phases of assigned budget management and initiates changes as appropriate. Coordinates budget development with other staff areas and coordinates the annual reporting of the program accomplishments.
Coordinates the preparation of contract specifications for suppression and personnel. May serve as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on fire and aviation contracts for the State. Allocates funding for fire facilities and equipment needs.
Responsible for fiscal expenditures and the implementation of strategies and appropriate course of actions for all incidents consistent with direction of agency policies.
Drive on State business.

National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Fire Qualifications: Type 3, 2, or 1 Command/General Staff
NWCG Leadership Courses: L380 and/or L480
A valid Arizona Driver's License.
Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
