- Work directly with students/groups of students in-person.

- Follow a flexible schedule based upon the needs of students in your school. Possess an ability to be flexible, changing gears at a moment's notice.
- Follow your responsible portions of the behavior plans including supervising students during their scheduled and unscheduled breaks.
- Provide in class support as directed by the principal and teacher.
- Monitor and supervise students throughout the school day. Perform various other duties including supervision and escorting students between classes when necessary.
- Respond to calls for classroom support to work the student through their behavior plan.
- Implement PBIS.
- Give students clear expectations and consistent responses.
- Use Zones of Regulation with students as needed.
- Communicate with classroom teachers, principal, and support team (PBIS, Counselor, RtI, Special Education) regularly.
- Intervenes in potential conflicts utilizing appropriate physical and/or therapeutic approaches for the purpose of diffusing confrontations and minimizing disruptions.
- Models conversation, manners, listening, and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Monitors students during assigned periods for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and adults.
- Ability to handle conflict.
- Attend all required training.
- Work with high needs student(s) to promote success within the school setting.
- Work directly with behavior and/or health impaired student(s).
- Develop a working knowledge of the students with which you are working.
- Provide positive feedback when a student is behaving appropriately. Enthusiastically acknowledge student success.
- Develop a positive trusting working relationship with the student while retaining professionalism as a staff member.
- Redirect student when necessary to keep them on task.
- Work with the student within the parameters of an individualized education plan.
- Keep in contact with regular education teacher; act as liaison between special education teacher and regular classroom teacher when appropriate.
- Work with all students in the classroom, with priority given to assigned students.
- Be willing and able to teach small groups of students as instructed by the teacher.
- Maintain a log of activities that take place throughout the day and chart student behavior as instructed by the special education teacher.
- Possess ability to anticipate teacher and/or student needs, and work independently in meeting those needs.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality required.
- Training in use of behavior management required.
- Ability to use de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team.
- Previous successful work with children with behavioral challenges required.
Physical Requirements:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
- Ability to regularly walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors; inclement weather at times
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Mandatory Conditions of Employment
- Proof of High School diploma, or equivalent;
- Have one of the following (proof of completion submitted no later than 60 days following hire date):
- An AA Degree from an accredited academic college or university
- A minimum of 72 college quarter credits
- Have passed a district-recognized assessment of basic skills and instructional proficiency (currently the ETS test)
- Completion of 14 hours of Fundamental Course of Study/General Paraeducator Certificate training as provided and directed by the District (OSPI and PESB requirement).
- Successful completion of Safety Care and Ukeru without accommodations.
- Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.
- Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
- Completion of federal I-9 form.
