Job Title:STEM CoordinatorWage/Hour Status: Exempt
Reports to: District Dean of Instruction Date Revised: January 2024

Summary:
Responsible for coordinating, developing, and/or delivering educational activities, curricular resources and staff training to design and support district wide STEM/STEAM initiatives. Will be responsible for collaborating with academic departments and campuses to provide leadership for district wide initiatives in collaboration with science and educational technology programs.
Qualifications/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or Educational Technology, preferred
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
  • 3-5 years demonstrated successful teaching experience in science, math, or career and technical education
  • Campus and district level leadership experience preferred

Other Skills and Abilities
  1. Knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and best practices related to STEM/STEAM education.
  2. Knowledge of STEM/STEAM curriculum design, lesson development, and personalized learning.
  3. Knowledge of current educational technology trends in STEM/STEAM education.
  4. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the science TEKS, with a focus on designing effective curriculum and assessment that directly aligns with those standards.
  5. Demonstrate ability to integrate 21st century skills and technology into student learning experiences.
  6. Ability to objectively observe, coach and mentor staff.
  7. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
  8. Demonstrate strong instructional leadership, organizational and communication skills to include ability to develop program improvement plans, PBL/STEM/STEAM lessons, budget proposals, memos, handbooks, webpage development, grant writing, marketing and promotional resources, and professional development presentations.
  9. Demonstrate strong project management skills.
  10. Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders including higher education, business, research, and non-profit affiliates.
  11. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and policies.
  12. Ability to perform duties remotely and/or on a flex schedule, upon approval by superintendent, in response to pandemics, natural disasters, catastrophic events, etc. and will be subject to virtual/distance learning policies and procedures as set forth in employee handbook.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management:
  1. Design, coordinate and implement a STEM/STEAM plan to include professional development pathways for district/campus STEM curriculum, community outreach, and extra-curricular activities.
  2. Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for a district STEM/STEAM program.
  3. Implement strategies for initiating and sustaining STEM/STEAM innovations and support the implementation at the campus and district level.
  4. Develop, facilitate, and deliver STEM/STEAM educational activities.
  5. Assist academic departments and campuses in the development of a PK-8th STEM/STEAM instructional design plan with an emphasis on PBL and technology integration.
  6. Analyzes and uses data to identify needs and to evaluate, improve, and report on program effectiveness.
  7. Demonstrate and model STEM/STEAM lesson design for teachers to include providing instructional strategies and various tools to aid the instructional process. Will observe teachers and provide feedback and/or demonstrate lessons as needed.
  8. Coach and model effective use of technology tools and resources in collaboration with teachers and campus leaders to support STEM/STEAM education.
  9. Conduct needs assessments to inform the content and delivery of STEM/STEAM professional learning programs that result in a positive impact on student learning as part of new initiatives and grants.
  10. Advocate for policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support the implementation of the shared vision represented in the school and district STEM/STEAM plans and guidelines.
  11. Seach for new and innovative ways to use STEM/STEAM tools in instruction.
  12. Develop, coordinate, and oversee district events to promote the attainment of district goals and implementation of district initiatives.

Professional Growth and Development:
  1. Designs, organizes, and conducts professional development in collaboration with instructional coordinators, district leadership team, and campus administration related to STEM/STEAM best practices and their integration into the classroom.
  2. Attends appropriate professional meetings and workshops to maintain proficiency and to acquire new ideas for STEM/STEAM.
  3. May assist with the evaluation of faculty.
Other:
  1. Work with district and community to recruit new partners to facilitate partnership opportunities in STEM-related fields, including projects, speakers, and field experiences.
  2. Establish strong working relationships with district staff, parents, and the community.
  3. Assists the district with the acquisition of appropriate textbooks, teacher guides, and other instructional materials and equipment.
  4. As requested, may assist campuses in need of supervisory or instructional assistance.
  5. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  6. Maintain confidentiality.
  7. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.
Equipment Used:
Computer, telephone, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator and other standard office equipment and peripherals.
Working Conditions:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel/squat, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist and walk. Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse is required with occasional reaching. The employee must occasionally do light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds). Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over); of various equipment. Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise; regular districtwide travel and occasional statewide travel. Employee must work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress. Employee may work prolonged or irregular hours.
