Position Summary:
This position is located offsite at designated school clinic(s) for 9 months of the year. They are responsible to care for the children who come to the clinic for illness, injury or medication (if applicable). They will directly supervise LPN's in the district to maintain and manage the clinic. They abide by the IHP and EAP per physician orders and parents request. They will be aware of school policies and procedures regarding ill/injured students. They may administer medication per physicians order in the IHP/EAP. RN's will report to the Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) for assignments when school is not in session. Off during summers.
Essential Duties:
Setup of school clinic(s) for the upcoming year
Identify supplies that are low or needed in the clinic(s)
Order supplies as needed for the clinic(s)
Understand and enforce school policies and procedures
Familiarize with school computer system for charting (infinite campus)
Correctly obtain updated/new prescriptions from parents' per school policy
Administer routine medication as ordered in the IHP
Store medication in appropriate manor
Notify parents when student needs refill of routine medication at school
Obtain all vaccination records from student's parents
Notify the parents when a child needs a school required vaccine
Report to ODH vaccination records yearly
Administer and report vision/hearing exams yearly to ODH
Gather information from an ill/injured student and follow proper protocol
Document all encounters with students and notify parents when a student comes into the clinic for injury/illness
Obtain vitals on students' per school protocol
Send consent forms home to parents
Follow up with parents of absent students per school policy
Monitor absenteeism for health condition progression to update IHP
Understand and identify communicable diseases
Check/observe and monitor students' blood glucose levels, count carbs, and observe/administer insulin as directed by IHP for diabetic students (if acquired medication administration certificate)
Maintain a clean and neat clinic
Files medical records
Understand HIPAA/FERPA guidelines
Assist the schools' in projects when needed
Join the school in field trips when asked for a medical personnel
Transport student(s) with health conditions to designated destinations preset by the school
Assist in the closing of school clinic at the end of the school year
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintain professionalism at all times to reflect LCGHD standards. Attend meetings designated by the LCGHD or School District. Complete education given by LCGHD and School District.
Minimum Qualifications:
Active RN/BSN, BLS or equivalent experience required
