Position Purpose
Assist teachers with the implementation of Indiana English/Language Arts Standards as well as Indiana Content Area Literacy Standards. Assist District Administrators in examining building level and district data, especially Title I school data, to ensure resources align with goals, and support all students growing and achieving at all levels and in all breakout groups.
Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrate exemplary reading and language arts instruction for teachers by following researched-based practices: observation, coaching, model lessons, collaborative lesson planning and small and large group instruction.
  • Promote and support the implementation of the NIET framework by embracing and utilizing the structures of cluster, ILT, and coaching.
  • Work with building principals and leadership teams to review multiple sources of data to diagnose student skill weaknesses in E/LA, and match areas of need with appropriate instructional strategies and resources.
  • Work with teachers to constantly assess and improve student achievement results.
  • Uphold, support, and promote the adopted curriculum materials and identify critical attributes to achieve student success with said materials.
  • Provide Professional Development to teachers and/or administrators based on determined needs, which includes assisting teachers in utilizing and analyzing mClass data to inform student progress and to plan for effective small group instruction.
  • Monitor the mClass data district wide. Analyze data to determine relationships between early assessments and state assessments.
  • Help make recommendations regarding instructional materials that support district initiatives that have a record of proven success with student populations similar to ours.
  • Meet on a regular basis with Director of Elementary Education and Title I to review data in regards to mastery of standards and to plan for school support.
  • Be available for working with teachers outside of contract time, before and after school and during intercessions and breaks as needs are identified.

Equipment
Uses standard teaching equipment such as personal computers, printer, telephone, pens and pencils, dry erase markers, timer, etc.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Pay Rates
PEA certified position plus stipend
Work Schedule
This position follows the standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the teacher's contract, however, working at the district level requires being available for both tier two and tier three schools. Additionally, it is an expectation that the District Literacy Coach will be available to facilitate and deliver professional development to teachers during intercession, school breaks, and summers.

  • A deep level of understanding of the Indiana Standards in English/Language Arts as well as all content literacy standards.
  • Evidence of successful experience in working with adult learners.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of strong written communication and presentation skills.
  • Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Evidence of successful leadership at grade level, building level and/or district level.
  • Experience in conducting effective and appropriate professional development.
  • Experience in effective mentoring and coaching of teachers.
  • In-depth knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies necessary to support students of all abilities.
  • A high degree of judgment, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to foster a positive and respectful culture of professionalism among teachers and staff.
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative professional relationships with administrators, teachers, peers, and the community in general, while promoting district goals.
  • Willingness and ability to model support of district programs and initiatives with professionalism and by being present.

  • Current Indiana Teacher's License, in subject area applicable to teaching assignment.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in education. Master's degree preferred.

Experience
  • Five (5) years of successful experience teaching.
  • Teaching experience at more than one grade-level preferred.
