A Sorter/Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the Distribution Sorter. Also performs a combination of administrative and clerical shipping duties that include order auditing and transacting inventory into and out of the Distribution Center. Schedule is: Monday through Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm, with extended hours as business needs dictate.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Inspects/assesses distribution sorter at start of shift, batch change, and end of day and communicates condition with management.
- Becomes familiar with daily replenishment schedule and anticipates potential workflow bottlenecks or opportunities.
- Utilizes GBI/JA Apex dashboard to understand current condition of sorter, and order status; and effectively monitor sorter and conveyor throughput and periodically report data to management and/or perform data entry.
- Consistently monitor reject or recirculation counts and work with appropriate team members to resolve quickly to eliminate impact of shipping schedule. Proactively engage management on repeat issues that need cross functional partnership for resolution.
- Communicates status of sorter to management for on-time performance and daily carrier pickup.
- Follows process for routine issues resolution and escalates to management in a timely manner, if needed.
- Communicates status of workflow to management.
- Performs the following Inbound/Outbound inventory transactions in Oracle:
- Receive merchandise, supplies and equipment from internal organizations (retail stores, manufacturing plants, corporate departments - including product care & engraving) and external sources.
- Inspects incoming material/goods received to meet established quality standards. Process rejects that are noncompliant
- Transfer merchandise to internal organizations.
- Audit (proof) retail replenishment orders and customer orders.
- Ship and confirm customer and retail replenishment orders for shipment.
- Research/troubleshoot inventory discrepancies.
- Communicate with internal departments (retail stores, manufacturing plants, product care, engraving, call center and distribution planning) to reconcile inventory/order discrepancies.
- Work closely with internal departments to expedite high priority orders.
- Manifest shipments to James Avery retail stores, customers, or suppliers using UPS, Worldship, or similar manifest programs, including weighing and labeling the package/shipping container.
- Apply postage to a mail piece (letter or package) through the use of a postage meter.
- Order and request packaging/office supplies from internal and external suppliers.
- Perform pick, put-away and packaging duties when required.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy and have a strong attention to detail
- Maintain adequate security on all assigned inventory items (physical and procedural controls).
- Observe all safety regulations; participate in safety training; report all unsafe conditions to the appropriate company personnel.

WHAT IS REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of experience in a Distribution environment.
- Two years’ experience using personal computers and Windows software applications in at least one of the following programs: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and file management, preferred but not required. Experience with Oracle or other ERP system preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents (such as purchase orders, bill of ladings, sales orders, work orders/jobs, packing lists and procedure manuals). Ability to maintain (productivity/receiving) logs and correspond (via e-mail). Ability to communicate confidently with internal departments personally or via telephone.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals, including calculating percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply logic in resolving inventory issues involving several variables.
- Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and manage frequent interruptions. Organized; self-motivated; ability to independently prioritize / coordinate multiple projects/tasks. Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to quickly learn new technology.
- Possess strong problem diagnosis skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Enthusiastic, willing to learn, and contributes to a positive team spirit.
