FRANKLIN COUNTY SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: DISTANCE LEARNING LAB FACILITATOR
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
PAY GRADE G
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, conducts the technical operation and daily management of the Distance Learning Lab classroom. Work schedule must be flexible in order to accommodate the needs of the students and the availability of the classroom. Reports to the school principal and/or the Director for Media and Technology.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Troubleshoots computer software and classroom audio and video equipment, and reports problems to the appropriate person.
Maintains Distance Learning Lab equipment and compiles an inventory of such equipment.
Serves as the point of contact for network and site scheduling, training, publicity and programming.
Serves as point of contact for vendors.
Serves as representative for state and local meetings regarding the development and progress of the Distance Learning Lab program.
Disseminates information and reports to staff on the latest developments concerning the statewide DISTANCE LEARNING trends.
Submits recommendations for expansion and updating of equipment.
Administers state and local testing programs as required.
Develops and coordinates the Distance Learning Lab curriculum at the school site based on student interest surveys, dual enrollment options, etc.
Schedules with community colleges, universities and other high schools.
Provides Distance Learning Lab publicity for school tabloids and other student registration materials and the community at large.
Supervises students who receive video instruction from another school site.
Provides student enrichment during "off-air" time.
Grades exams for students who receive video instruction.
Facilitates the delivery of tests, course material and homework between sites involved in DISTANCE LEARNING via US mail, fax, courier, etc.
Submits attendance and Integrade disks as required.
Instructs students regarding video production for school broadcasts with Prime Cable.
Produces, directs, edits and transports the bi-weekly television show.
Develops video and audio productions for special in-house publications and promotions.
Coordinates and implements teacher training on the Distance Learning Lab.
Schedules and facilitates teacher enrichment programs such as Master's programs and CEU's and student enrichment programs.
Schedules and facilitates board meetings, legislative meetings, county wide meetings, etc.
Provides technical support for media equipment throughout school and integrating outside media with the Distance Learning Lab equipment.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Makes sure each individual school gains full benefit of the Distance Learning Lab capabilities.
Conducts demonstrations of the Distance Learning Lab during Open House and other school sponsored events as appropriate.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Must meet the "No Child Left Behind" requirements to be "highly qualified." Graduation from high and experience with the technology involved with the Distance Learning Lab; college graduate with a teaching license preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Requires light physical work. Must be able to lift up to ten pounds. Must be able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to staff and students.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms and reports. Requires the ability to prepare data sheets using prescribed format.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk, write and hear.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Specific knowledge of the particular software and systems.
General knowledge of related information technology devices.
Knowledge of software packages utilized.
Knowledge of the set-up of VGA and MAC data dissemination for Internet and hypermedia demonstrations.
Ability to communicate effectively with telecommunication personnel, telephone company representatives and network advisors to produce creditable programming.
Ability to communicate effectively with users who may not be adept in clarifying problem situations.
Ability to train others in the use of hardware and software.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to comprehend the purpose of designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objectives.
Ability to solve independently most minor problems.
