Job description

I. OVERVIEW:
As the Dish & Bakehouse support role, you will be primarily responsible for maintaining a clean and tidy Bakehouse environment in a professional manner.

We are looking for a dedicated, organized dishwasher who enjoys working as part of a team in a fast paced culinary environment. The Dishwasher’s duties include washing all dishes thoroughly, and restocking to the appropriate storage area when dry throughout your shift.

You will also be responsible for supporting the Bakehouse with other tasks (when time allows) that contribute to a smoothly operating work environment that is clean and tidy.

To be successful in the Dishwasher & Bakehouse Support role, you need to be committed to the highest standard of cleanliness and organization, and a communicative team player with excellent time management skills. You’ll also need to be able to prioritize tasks in a busy setting and adhere to all food safety regulations and procedures.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

Your time at Voyageurs will evolve with time as we learn more about your skills, and how we can support you in achieving professional goals. To begin in this part time role, your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining an extremely tidy and clean dish room by ensuring that all dishes are washed, sanitized and put away in a timely manner. This includes not only washing all dishes, but also organizing shelving, wiping down walls and maintaining clean floors.
  • Proactively and regularly going around the Bakehouse and finding various dishware and equipment that is finished with use and bringing them back to the dish area for cleaning.
  • Taking responsibility for closing duties including sweeping, scraping and mopping floors at the end of the day so the Bakehouse is ready for the next shift.
  • Taking out the trash and recycling and rinsing the cans / garbage bins.
  • Weekly and monthly deep cleaning responsibilities according to Bakehouse checklists and specifications.
  • Daily checking bakery boxes and packaging needs and building more boxes if necessary for the following day's orders.
  • Supporting other Bakehouse staff members by assisting with other tasks, as needed. This may include helping to roll cookies with detailed instruction, packaging up baked goods, and deep cleaning.
  • Reporting kitchen accidents or violations of food safety codes and procedures.

III. PERSONAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

The personal skills that is required for the job:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Flexibility & Desire to support - Being willing to have flexibility each day on your planned schedule. You seek to support team members and feel fulfilled by lending a helping hand.
  • The ability to work under occasional pressure during busy times - and even thriving during these exciting growth weeks.
  • An effective, well organized and efficient team player with a strong sense of problem solving and time management.
  • The ability to adhere to a high standard of cleanliness and organization which will help the Bakehouse operate as a fun and well maintained space for the Crew and our customers alike.
  • Willingness to comply with all food safety procedures.
  • Excellent standards of personal presentation, smart appearance and articulate communication.
  • Relevant work experience is a bonus.

IV. Schedule:

  • Start Date: Proposed start date is Tuesday, March 19th.
  • The starting schedule would be Tuesday - Friday, with an estimate of 16-20 hours a week.

Tuesday • 12:00pm - 4:00pm (4 hours)

Wednesday • 12:00pm - 4:00pm (4 hours)

Thursday • 12:00pm - 4:00pm (4 hours)

Friday • 12:00pm - 4:00pm (4 hours)

  • Paid annual leave
  • On a full time basis, in your first year of employment you will earn / accrue 11 days of paid vacation time (88hours). You will begin to earn this time from your first day on the job, however the time only becomes available for use after successfully passing your 3 month probationary. The time is earned on an accrual basis of hours worked / hours earned. The second year of employment you will earn 12 days per year, and so on.
  • Paid breaks
  • 30 minutes every day to have a break. You are free to leave the Bakehouse, or enjoy a sandwich in a few of the areas available to team members.
  • Sick Leave
  • 2 paid sick days given annually, for part time team, available for use after successfully passing your 3 month probationary period. These are not accrued days like the vacation days, as we cannot plan when we get sick!
  • Shared Tips
  • All (hourly waged) team members get to participate in a shared tip pool. This averages to be around $2.50 - $4.00 per hour extra on top of your hourly wage. This is not guaranteed, as it is based on customer satisfaction, but on average over the last 18 months, these are the hourly additions team members have seen in their wage. This results in up to $5,000 extra annually for a Full-Time (40hr per week) Employed Member.
  • Daily Food
  • A sandwich or custom made plate of your choice each day on the shift, plus an espresso coffee drink or tea of your choice.
  • Weekly Loaf:
  • You’ll get to choose off the shelf a loaf of bread each week. There are often many opportunities to also take home more than one loaf a week.
  • Employee Discount:
  • You’ll also receive a code to be able to pre-order bread / pastry at 50% discount on the website. This way you can share Voyageurs goodies with your friends and family and at the holidays.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
