We are seeking a Workers' Compensation Discovery Clerical to support multiple Attorneys within The Hartford's Florida Staff Legal team. The selected candidate shall enjoy a high-volume, paperless environment that is both dynamic and rewarding. Our Discovery Clerk shall be responsible for assisting Attorneys and Legal Assistants with the discovery process and litigation projects. Key responsibilities of this position may include drafting and responding to discovery requests, calendaring, tracking discovery responses and clerical support for the team. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assist Attorneys with preparation of materials for hearings and trials
  • Assist with propounding and responding to discovery requests
  • Prepare and assemble document packages
  • Prepare and send initial contact letters and authorizations
  • Locate and distribute electronic file information
  • Maintain electronic office files and scanning of records
  • Maintain the master calendar
  • Electronically duplicate documents
  • Calendar court appearances and related events
  • Utilize merge forms for correspondence, discovery requests, pleadings and motions
  • Filing court documents
  • Assist with special projects, as assigned
  • Download, organize, assemble and redact case materials
  • Perform additional administrative duties, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 1 year of litigation experience within a law firm or in-house legal environment
  • Experience with workers' compensation litigation processes, subpoena preparation and court proceedings is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of discovery rules and procedures
  • High School Diploma is required
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology, principles, proceedings and practices
  • Experience supporting responses to written discovery requests and letters regarding discovery
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze a variety of legal documents, files and records
  • Strong attention to detail with effective organizational skills
  • Readily able to understand and policies as set by the case jurisdiction
  • Proficiency with MS Office technology and a willingness to learn additional software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking with business professionals
  • Self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced, high-volume environment with minimal oversight
  • Ability to multi-task and follow-up on task
  • Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$40,685 - $61,027
