JOB TITLE:

Director/Professor - Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory

JOB PURPOSE:

The Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory (WSVL) is an AAVLD-accredited and NAHLN tier II laboratory based within the Department of Veterinary Sciences at the University of Wyoming. The WSVL serves the region by providing veterinary diagnostic services that encompass bacteriology, parasitology, pathology, serology, and virology. The WSVL Director is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of these activities. The Director will also contribute to other departmental activities that could include diagnostic veterinary service, teaching, and/or research as best suits the candidate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide leadership, vision, and future direction to the WSVL to meet the needs of key Wyoming stakeholders (veterinarians, producers). Participate in new vet licensing orientation twice yearly, and CE training at the winter WVMA orientation. Organize the WSVL advisory council meetings and provide regular updates as mandated by Wyoming statutes. Collaborate closely with other state/federal agencies including the Wyoming Livestock Board, Wyoming Game & Fish Department, the Wyoming Department of Public Health, and the USDA-APHIS on diseases of importance. Work cooperatively with WSVL faculty, staff, and students, as well as departmental and college leadership. Directly supervise essential administrative personnel including the quality manager, WSVL Accountant, and two Senior Office Associate Positions. Maintain accreditation with the AAVLD and participate in required NAHLN reporting and activities. Effectively manage operating budgets and ensure compliance with university practices.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ten years' post-DVM supervisory experience in a veterinary diagnostic lab, or an equivalent level of experience in a related environment.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

EDUCATION:

DVM, or equivalent degree.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Board-certification in a discipline of diagnostic veterinary medicine is preferred.
