Cresset is seeking an individual that will provide tax return review for client families, act as an advisor to the Trust Officers on tax matters for client families and serve as a liaison with tax authorities to resolve issues, as necessary. The Director will provide sophisticated tax planning, compliance, and research services to ultra-high net worth clients, and collaborate with the Managing Directors and family office peers to offer integrated wealth planning. This position will report directly to the Managing Tax Director, and compensation is commensurate with education/accreditation and relevant work experience.
Responsibilities
Tax
- Oversee Tax Organizer process and completion for designated clients
- Review Personal and Trust returns
- Review rental income/expense summaries for clients
- Prepare personal income tax projections and estimate calculations through BNA tax projection software
- Review tax estimates, and cost basis spreadsheets
- Oversee the personal quarterly tax estimate process
- Calculate and modify quarterly tax reserves
- Supervise and review Common Trust Funds returns
- Oversee and review trust tax estimate calculations
- Oversee CPA Invoice Billing Spreadsheet
- Coordinate compliance with General Excise and Accommodations tax filings
- Ensure compliance with 1042-S filing
- Perform research on tax law, as it relates to specific client issues or as assigned
- Provide training to tax team and office on software, processes and tax law
- Communication with outside CPAs, clients, and other entities on return status, open items, and missing information
Other
- Assist trust officers with client tax matters
- Correspond with foreign, IRS and State taxing authorities regarding tax notices and audits
- Act as tax liaison on estate matters
- Review estate and gift tax returns
- Prepare estate, gift and GST tax analysis for clients
Qualifications & Characteristics
- A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
- CPA certification
- 7+ years' relevant business tax experience with extensive individual and tax trust knowledge, of which a significant amount is in serving high net worth individuals
- A Masters or JD in tax, estate planning, or a related field is a plus
- A thorough understanding of integrated family wealth planning, including estate and financial planning
- Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for individuals and trusts.
- Familiarity with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements.
- Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
- Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members.
- Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Candidate should be confident and assertive, and able to garner the respect of others
- The ability to operate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment is essential
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and demonstrate the highest level of client service, ethics, and integrity
- Familiarity with UltraTax or ProSystems a plus
- Proficient in the use of Salesforce, One Source Tax and Accounting software, Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and other office technology
