Job Description
The Director, Strategic Communications is a strategic leader with deep experience in reputation management, internal and external Strategic Communications, and community outreach. The Director, Strategic Communications will advance mission aligned and value-based communications, and contribute thought leadership, relationship mapping, narrative change and partnership management. This role is responsible for leading and inspiring a developing highly functioning unified Communications and Community Resource team staff. Together they will mobilize knowledge to support and protect Elevate’ s goals, brand, and our partnerships.
The Director, Strategic Communications reports to the Chief Executive Officer. Elevate’s corporate office is in Chicago, IL. This position is open to remote work.
Responsibilities- Develop and ensure implementation of a comprehensive communications and external affairs strategy, including oversight of all channels, assets, tactics, and platforms such as websites, social channels blog, newsletters, earned and paid media, team beats and crisis communications.
- Develop and manage a communications budget.
- Provide or oversee support to the Executive Leadership Team.
- Develop, oversee, and implement Strategic Communications campaigns.
- Develop and execute communications plans for key events as assigned.
- Lead or oversee internal communications and organizational statements for, and in partnership with, leadership to ensure consistency in messaging.
- Ensure cross-collaboration between communications and other departments and provide effective team support for priority projects and campaigns.
- Coordinate opportunities for externally facing staff to receive coaching and training for public speaking, social media, and op-ed writing, coaching, and training.
- Analyze and report to staff on communications impact.
- Oversee maintenance of organization's website and other digital properties, while monitoring analytics.
- Manage and maintain visual brand identity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, related field, or relevant lived experience required.
- Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a Strategic Communications expert and leader.
- Seasoned communications generalist, with experience developing and leading Strategic Communications.
- High degree of emotional intelligence and commitment to Elevate’s human-focused approach
- Skilled communicator and people manager who can strategize, plan, and delegate effectively.
- Experience in communicating with socio-economically and racially diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated expertise communicating with a racial and/or economic justice lens.
- Project and vendor/contractor management experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

CompensationThe total compensation for this position includes health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.), defined contribution benefit (401k with contribution), professional development, generous paid time off policies, and a flexible schedule.
