The Director, Replenishment Solutions is responsible for defining the solutions roadmap, and leading solutions development and implementation for the Replenishment department. This Director will lead a Solutions team and report to the Sr. Director, Optimization & Replenishment Excellence. Overall, the objective of the Director will be to identify opportunities and create solutions leading to improved service outcomes, forecast accuracy, and operational efficiency / alignment.

Flexible Work Policy: The Director, Replenishment Solutions position has been segmented as Hybrid, meaning the work is a combination of Onsite and virtual. This position is based out of our corporate headquarters in Rosemont, IL

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Owning the Vision and Roadmap:

The Director will be expected to lay out a multi-year vision that will include solutions both to achieve aspirational objectives as well as those that address current state pain points. The vision laid out should align to leadership objectives of moving towards a higher level of end-to-end supply chain maturity.

  • Develop a broad, company-wide view of the business and an understanding for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance mechanisms

  • Understand the strategic goals of the Replenishment department and supply chain overall, and be the thought leader on how technology and process solutions can support achieving these goals

  • Understand the core supply chain operational and support processes that are impacted or can be improved by various solutions and ensure that solutions are holistic and account for end-to-end supply chain considerations

  • Conduct process-engineering studies on core replenishment activities and identify opportunities for automation, output optimization, work elimination, or other ways to either reduce workload or further add value

  • Define the requirements, resources, investment, and timeline needed for each of release within the solutions roadmap

  • Monitor progress towards roadmap objectives, hold solutions team and internal / external partners accountable for progress, and provide regular progress updates to leadership

  • Design future state business work processes for planning and execution and build solutions to enable processes

Design, Development, and Implementation:

The Director will need to be adept at process-engineering: understanding in detail the separate processes needed to accomplish a task and then identifying opportunities for further efficiency or value-add. Insights from process engineering will then be used to tailor future state processes, and the Director will be responsible for guiding solutions development to enable this future state.

  • Represent the business in working with solutions support partners (e.g., IT, solutions vendors) to define business strategy and objectives, core requirements, and operational constraints

  • Think creatively and understand “the art of the possible while representing business side, to ensure that solutions releases are effective in achieving the business vision

  • Interface with business stakeholders to ensure that designs and timeline align to operational considerations / calendars

  • Lead prototyping, new functionality testing, piloting of processes, and any other proof of concept type activity to prove the value and build confidence in the business case of any particular solutions release

  • Continuous oversight during development phases to ensure that solutions products are still aligned with business objectives and that requirements and timelines are being met

  • Guide and own final approval over any final testing activities (e.g., UAT) before a solution is released to the business

  • Ensure that proper support / troubleshooting / warranty mechanisms are in place, allowing for confident transitions

Cross-Functional Communication:

The Director will be expected to be the business-side leader that works most closely with IT product owners as well as any 3rd party consultants / contractors / solutions vendors that US Foods chooses to work with. The Director will be integral in ensuring that solutions account for the considerations of business cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., other supply chain functions, sales)

  • Work with IT partners to build replenishment priorities into the overall technology vision for US Foods

  • Manage 3rd party partners who contribute to the development and maintenance of solutions

  • Ensure visibility and alignment to solutions roadmap among cross-functional leadership, including merchandising, sales, transportation, and warehousing functions

  • Provide thought leadership on opportunities to establish a more end to end view of our business, including opportunities for other functions to utilize our function in planning for key business operations such as labor scheduling, transportation, etc.

  • Communicate frequently with cross-functional counterparts to avoid redundant work and support a cohesive vision for supply chain

  • Lead the development of change management communications and training to support solutions releases

Leadership & Team Management:

The Director is expected to establish a mindset of “solutioning” within the Replenishment department. Specifically, the solutions team will need an established and repeatable approach to understanding, brainstorming, development / implementation, and communication / change management.

  • Define a “solutioning” approach and culture for the team that ensure project value and team accountability.

  • Build a strong culture of performance, and continuous improvement within the solutions team

  • Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to team members; ensure that team members are aware of strengths and opportunity areas and that they are proactively working to improve and manage their US Foods career

  • Represent your team on regular performance evaluations and help build strong talent pipeline for the great organization

SUPERVISION

  • Directly reports to Senior Director, Optimization & Replenishment Excellence

  • Responsible for a team of approximately 2-3 direct reports and 4-6 in total organization

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Replenishment Leaders and Peers: Senior Directors and Directors of field operations as well as the SVP of Replenishment

  • Additional functions you will work closely with:

  • Blue Yonder (External)

  • Supply Chain IT

  • Other Supply Chain Functions (Warehousing, Transportation, etc)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Work experience, skills, and abilities:

  • Minimum 8 years experience across supply chain functions, with diverse exposure to supply chain technical. Minimum 5 years people management experience required.

  • Strong knowledge Supply Chain Planning and Inventory Management systems (e.g., SAP, Blue Yonder / JDA)

  • Experience managing a team of individual contributors with a strong analytical background

  • Proficiency in data analysis & visualization tools (i.e., Excel, Access, SQL, R, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally and draw linkages to business impact

  • Ability to synthesize key information, structure communication, and present to supply chain leadership team

  • High attention to detail, strong customer orientation, and fact-based decision making

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, analytics, engineering or similar functions

  • Master’s degree, preferred, but not required
