The Director of Web Strategy guides both the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of a best-in-class University marketing website. This position must know and understand the role the website plays in building the University's reputation, as well as recruiting students and faculty. The person in this position will develop a holistic view of the customer journey and apply data and insights to inform the ongoing improvement of the website that engages and converts, using data-driven decision-making, collaboration, and innovation.

 

The Director leads a team of Web strategists responsible for increasing web traffic, engagement and conversion rates through content strategy, SEO and other digital marketing strategies. Additionally, the director and team work collaboratively with others within the Marketing and Communications department, back-end developers and other campus constituents.

 

The Director of Web Strategy is also responsible for monitoring and analyzing overall web and digital marketing performance to identify, prioritize and execute appropriately on opportunities for improvement in market effectiveness.  The role includes supporting best practices for social, digital advertising, email marketing and website maintenance.

 

The Director of Web Strategy:

  • Develops the comprehensive digital strategy for Creighton.edu that aligns with the university's business objectives and drives growth
  • Understands web design and development, maintenance and upgrades
  • Leads and manages a team of Web strategists to ensure high-quality website performance and user experience
  • Oversees governance to ensure content is up-to-date, accurate, relevant and consistent with brand and messaging
  • Understands and utilizes data analytics tools to track performance and conversions
  • Collaborates with marketing team to build and manage a modernized martech stack
  • Ensures website compliance with legal, privacy, regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Stays up to date with digital trends and best practices to continually improve the university website

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the development and implementation of the University's web and interactive plan.
  • Oversee the University's web presence and the development of Web-based applications.
  • Ensure an online presence that is a highly user-friendly experience with functionality that is focused on the achievement of business and growth goals.
  • Manage and improve the overall user experience (UX/UI) including content and content strategy, considering SEO, heat maps, Google Analytics and any other research or tools used.
  • Monitor and analyze web metrics to optimize the user experience and web reporting.
  • Evaluate other tools to enhance the website.
  • Direct ongoing site management, development and content updates; responsible for overall administration of online communities. 
  • Manage graphic and video development and placement of elements on the site.
  • Establish overall goals, measure and evaluate outcomes of Web strategies, manage and motivate team to achieve goals.

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field is required.
  • 5-7 years of progressive online marketing experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing team(s) focused on website and interactive projects, content development and digital marketing.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing successful digital marketing campaigns.
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing, search engine optimization and web analytics.
  • Demonstrated skills with content management systems and digital marketing campaign systems.
  • Hands-on experience with SEO/SEM, Google Analytics 4 and CRM software.
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design and content strategy.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong business acumen, interpersonal skills, ability to lead and integrate web strategies with the overall university marketing plan.
  • Ability to work with internal resources to troubleshoot technical problems, logically and systematically.
