GENERAL PURPOSE: This is a temporary position which supervises employees, schedules, and evaluates summer camp program.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises Camp Counselors and Camp Supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in the supervision and instruction of Summer camp employees and program participants. Schedules events such as field trips, arts and crafts, and special events. Supervision of facilities and equipment with safety, access and maintenance responsibilities. Ensures compliance with department policies and recommends changes in policy to the Director. Coordinates program budget with Assistant Parks & Recreation Director. Performs record keeping for safety checks of facility, equipment checks, time cards, accident reports and attendance sheets. Performs other related duties when required.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: (A) Bachelors Degree, degree in education, recreation, or similar related field is desired. (B) Two years of youth sports/childcare/public relations experience.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (A) Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, and operations used in a recreation program; (B) Good interpersonal skills. (C) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
