The Director of Student Success meets and exceeds Student Success and retention objectives on behalf of Carolina University by providing seamless student support services. This position has responsibility and accountability for increasing retention rates (especially amongst first-year CU students) and graduation rates. This requires an in-depth understanding of academic information and policies, and student support services to empower students towards success.

The Director of Student Success communicates with the campus community to promote collaboration and improve services to students. They serve as the strategic and operational leader to enhance Student Success by developing and implementing Student Success and advisement strategies to advance learning, engagement, retention, and completion. They will coordinate the daily student support activities, operations, follow-up services, and organize reports related to Student Success.

This position reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs and partners with other university offices, faculty, and staff for Student Success.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree required (in education, leadership, or student support preferred)

· Master’s degree preferred (in education, leadership, or student support preferred)

· Three to five years of higher education work experience preferred

· Experience with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) coordination

· Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings

· Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills

· Must have strong customer service skills with an articulate, professional demeanor

· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team and assume responsibility for problem-solving

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Performs support services for Student Success program; prepare reports and other documents related to students’ success.

· Develop a retention plan/program especially for first-year students.

· Work with students, staff, and faculty to implement goals and objectives for Student Success.

· Assist with the coordination, development, and implementation of appropriate high engagement Student Success strategies and supporting technologies.

· Oversee the ‘Early-Alert System’ and educate Faculty/Staff often on its use.

· Resolve issues and recommend solutions related to Student Success.

· Analyze retention and attrition data to identify trends and potential solutions

· Use data to assess the effectiveness of academic and support services and develop department and personnel goals that align with the University’s strategic plan.

· Meet on a regular basis with the Vice President for Student Affairs to report on the status of retention data and efforts.

· Create plan to promote Student Success events, activities, and support

· Conduct weekly grade checks to discover any students needing assistance.

· Provide a weekly progress report to athletic coaches for their teams.

· Meet regularly with students who are on academic warning/probation to provide support

· Continually seek ways to improve service to students by developing new initiatives or success measures that will contribute to retention and student satisfaction

· Develop and monitor student risk assessments and employ intervention strategies at critical points of the student's educational path.

· Support at-risk students by connecting them with campus and community services.

· Be available to meet student needs that may arise after business hours, over the weekend, and during school holidays

· Handle confidential student information with tact, discretion, and in compliance with FERPA regulations

· Manage the Ashburn Center for Student Success.

· Organize tutoring sessions and develop a Writing Center for all Carolina University students to have access to.

· Supervise and evaluate the performance of tutors and student-workers.

· Train tutors to assist with study skills, math, English and writing competencies

· Coordinate with student services to assist in new student onboarding/orientation.

· Oversee the Office of Accessibility and Student Inclusion Services.

· Oversee and manage the Computer Lab

· Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs
