Organization Background:

The Inner City Education Foundation, known as ICEF Public Schools, is a nonprofit charter school network serving communities in the South Los Angeles area for 25 years. ICEF Public Schools operates seven high-quality, tuition-free, public charter elementary, middle, and high schools serving over 2,000 scholars from TK-12th grade. 

 

ICEF's mission is to educate and empower courageous leaders to pursue their full potential in college, career, and life by providing a community that honors each student's unique identity, fosters academic excellence, nurtures healthy minds, and inspires critical thinkers.

 

Position Description:

Under the guidance of the Managing Director of Operations, the Director of Strategic Enrollment will be responsible for generating leads for prospective families across the ICEF network, and manage its school-based enrollment teams. This leader will drive student recruitment by sourcing leads for schools through: building strong strategic partnerships, effectively leveraging social media platforms, researching and creating a strong presence for ICEF at community events, creating and managing a series of ICEF-hosted community events for prospective families, collaborating with ICEF’s marketing department on paid media opportunities, and building interest through referrals from currently enrolled families. This individual will set targets for each school’s recruitment efforts. This individual will collect data and create visualizations that allow every school to track their progress toward enrollment targets, which tactics are most effective in generating leads,  and which leads are being converted to enrollments.  

 

Reporting:

This position reports to the Managing Director of Operations.

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Cycle: 12 months

Salary: Commensurate with Experience ($85,000-$95,000)

Strategy and Vision Setting Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the execution of the student outreach and enrollment strategy, in collaboration with ICEF’s MD of Marketing, including new student recruitment and returning students' intent to return
  • Manage ICEF’s annual budget for community events related to enrollment 
  • Provide guidance, support, and oversight to school sites on retention efforts for current students
  • Create and leverage community opportunities to increase ICEF’s visibility with potential families
  • Elevate challenges within the network and work with senior leadership team to inform and improve work.
  • Research and develop a cohesive plan for effective enrollment and recruitment strategy across the ICEF network of schools.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of enrollment and recruitment strategy procedures through the use of key metrics and adjust as needed
  • Provide data‐driven enrollment forecasts and projections and generate action plans as needed to ensure student outreach and enrollment goals are met
 

Team Leadership & Performance Management Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Managing Director of Operations, oversee, manage, and evaluate direct reports
  • Provide ongoing coaching to and development of direct reports, including annual goal-setting processes, periodic step-backs and retreats, and consistent coaching meetings.
  • Collaborate to develop and facilitate long-term, substantive, coherent professional development plans for the enrollment team
  • Monitor customer service quality across the network and prompt/facilitate training as needed.
  • Lead organization-level professional development on enrollment strategy, best practices, and customer service
  • Lead and train school site staff around canvassing, phone banking, robust lead follow-up, and more
  • Design and launch student outreach efforts, including school visits and tours
 

Administrative Management & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Publish and present regular status reports related to organization-wide enrollment, recruitment, and retention
  • Manage and administer registration, enrollment lottery, and intent to return process and associated reporting for all students
  • Collaborate with the development department to create or leverage existing marketing, digital media, and other electronic media outreach, website management around student enrollment,
  • Lead network and school site marketing efforts for student recruiting and support schools as they host information sessions, open houses, orientations, etc.
  • Assist with operations and compliance projects and tasks as needed
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Other duties as assigned.
 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 
  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience (required)
  • 2+ years of work experience in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred, knowledge of and/or experience working in the communities we serve required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of considerable experience in data-driven enrollment operations and complex data modeling that result in sustained growth in enrollment, diversity, academic quality, and increased retention.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to represent ICEF to the diverse communities we serve
  • Proven track record as a leader and collaborator; direct management experience not required but is a plus 
  • Ability to break down complex projects into actionable goals, targets, and milestones, and can manage self and others to these
  • Able to quickly gain trust and build effective relationships
  • Experience executing multiple high-priority projects, producing high-quality deliverables on time
  • Knowledge of the online enrollment platform SchoolMint, or a similar platform
  • Able to research, learn, and apply new skills quickly, think creatively to solve problems, and thrive in ambiguous environments with limited direction on the next steps
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate clearly verbally, as well as via email, bullet point updates, and slide presentations
  • Comfortable with negotiation and demonstrable ability to influence others
  • Effective teamwork orientation with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies, including leadership, school leaders and staff, parents, students, and community members
  • Hardworking, motivated, and self-directed; able to think critically and anticipate the needs of diverse stakeholders
  • Able to develop, document, and implement internal systems and processes to increase effectiveness
  • Dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to ICEF’s mission and the communities we serve

This position does have direct supervisory responsibilities.
