Director of Security

At Nomad, we are establishing a dedicated Security Department, envisioned to be a cornerstone in protecting our digital and physical assets. This department, under the guidance of the Director of Security, will be pivotal in building robust security frameworks, ensuring our operations are safeguarded against evolving threats. We seek to assemble a team of innovative, vigilant, and skilled security professionals, led by a Director who exemplifies strategic foresight, a passion for technology-driven security solutions, and a commitment to excellence in safeguarding our company. The ideal candidate will bring leadership in nurturing a dynamic team environment, fostering continuous learning and proactive risk management. This role is about pioneering a path in security, setting a high bar for protection and efficiency, and leading a team towards achieving these goals.
Responsibilities:
As the Director of Security, your role will be integral in shaping and leading Nomad's Security Department. Your focus will be on developing robust security strategies to safeguard our company's digital and physical realms. You'll work closely with various teams, aligning security measures with business objectives, and leading efforts in risk management and mitigation. This role entails managing key security metrics and continuously seeking enhancements in our security posture. Your leadership skills should inspire a culture of proactive security, with a strong emphasis on team-building, continuous learning, and maintaining exceptional standards in security practices.
Accountabilities:

  • Accountable to CTO for program budget reporting
  • Accountable to CTO for delivering on strategic plan
  • Meet with stakeholders to make communication easy and transparent regarding project issues
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle

What You Will Do:
  • Security Strategy and System Integrity:
    • Architect, develop, and maintain a robust security infrastructure to support our operational and information systems.
    • Ensure the highest levels of Security, resilience, and scalability across all company systems and data.
    • Work closely with the established FSO and CISO to ensure the security needs of the company are met efficiently.
  • Team Building and Leadership:
    • Grow the Security Department, providing direction, support, and expertise.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate security into our business fabric, driving initiatives that enhance our protective measures.
    • Cultivate a culture of Security-minded thinking, fostering innovation, and continuous advancement in our security practices.
    • Align department goals with broader organizational objectives and metrics.
    • Work with various Nomad teams to determine and implement robust cross-training initiatives.
    • Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
    • Ensure team expenses, utilization, and performance align with budget and revenue projections.
    • Lead employee performance reviews and design improvement plans based on individual employee development needs and recommend or initiate personnel actions such as hires, terminations, disciplinary measures, or worker job-skill improvement.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Spearhead the development of Security protocols and enforce cybersecurity measures to protect our intellectual property and sensitive data.
    • Maintain and enhance compliance with evolving industry standards and regulations in cybersecurity and data protection.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Engage with stakeholders across the organization, including IT, engineering, manufacturing, and leadership, to ensure a cohesive security approach.
    • Articulate complex security strategies in a clear, comprehensible manner to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding.

What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. Alternatively, substantial experience in the field may also be considered.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in cybersecurity within a manufacturing or engineering environment, preferably in a bespoke or engineer-to-order industry.
  • Experience in DoD, State & Local, & FedCiv cyber policies, procedures, and requirements is a plus
  • Key industry certification in Cybersecurity, such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC, CRISC, and CISA
  • Strong proficiency in understanding and implementing NIST standards for CMMC and RMF
  • Proven experience (7 years) in building and leading effective and diverse teams
  • A diverse IT background
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization, while being able to simplify complex topics for understanding and critical decision making by Executive Management and the Board
  • Ability to understand not only emerging industry trends as far as cyber security is concerned but also the landscape of emerging threats, making appropriate adjustments within the cybersecurity program
  • Experience in cybersecurity best practices and risk management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • A successful candidate will have a drive for team leadership, a track record of success in customer service and or manufacturing environment, and a passion for improving the customer experience.
