Schedule: Monday - Friday 9 am - 6pm, some weekends and evenings
Sunday, 9:00 am- 2 pm Monday through Thursday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm (Religious Education) Some Saturday's.
40 hours per week
Reports to: Business Manager

Summary
The Director of Religious Education will lead the Religious Education program in fulfillment of the catechetical mission of the parish. This position will supervise and work with volunteers to coordinate healthy religious programs for children, youth, and adults. This candidate will also design, develop, direct, and evaluate a total parish catechetical program and provide leadership to assist our parish community in building a solid foundation for spirituality, Catholic living, ministry, and outreach for our English and Spanish speaking community. This individual will work with the pastor, parish staff, and ministry leaders to foster a culture of lifelong learning and growth in Christ within the parish and beyond.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and provide faith formation activities and materials for families and children that embrace intergenerational, home, parish, and worship contexts.
  • Work closely with the pastor and business manager to coordinate the Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, "XV años", Godparents, and Sponsors programs, including retreats, service projects, fundraisers, and other events.
  • Create and manage web-based catechetical material and social-media outreach for faith formation and the parish.
  • Interact with other committees and groups to promote family-focused and youth-oriented activities, such as parish picnic, parish festival, parish bingo nights, family movie nights, Easter egg hunt, retreats, service projects, etc.
  • Coordinate Summer Vacation Bible School (1 week/year).
  • Coordinates RCIA program for Adults and Children.
  • Creates and maintains Religious Education programs' calendar.
  • Schedules at the pastor's directive dates for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, "XV años", and RCIA.
  • Schedules and coordinates the sacramental meetings for parents, Godparents, sponsors, for the Sacraments.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers for faith formation ministries.
  • Assists each catechist in establishing and implementing their plan for diocesan catechist formation and maintains catechist records.
  • Works with the Diocesan Department of Catholic Formation and represents the parish at various meetings and conferences pertaining to Religious Education and/or administrative development.
  • Advocate for and nurture a vision of adult faith formation within the parish, based on the baptismal promises and the guiding values of communion with God, intergenerational community, and mission.
  • Assist the pastor and his Pastoral Council in implementing the parish's pastoral plan on lifelong formation in faith.
  • Empower and equip members of the parish to grow in their relationship with God and to bear fruit in their daily lives.
  • Develop relationships with families, to better respond to the changing needs and ministry opportunities within this community.
  • Enfold guests and new members into the life and ministry of the parish.
  • Evaluates the programs to determine strengths, areas of improvement and future needs.
  • Work closely with business manager and/or pastoral associate to ensure that sacramental records with support documentation and required notifications are up to date.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Religious Education, or advanced certificate n Catholic teaching or faith formation ministry.
  • Possesses several years of teaching experience.
  • Active member in a Roman Catholic Church required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, parishioners, and the public both in English and Spanish.
  • Experience creating and implementing faith formation programs in a parish setting; working with children and youth; building community among and between diverse people of all ages.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills
  • Must be a practicing Catholic and active in the parish; must work well with people of all walks of life.
  • Experience in multicultural education and culturally responsive practices in the classroom and commitment to anti-racism.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to relate well with a wide range of children, youth and adults.
  • Flexible team player, able to work collaboratively with teams of lay leaders and other staff members.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Ability to work a flexible work week including weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions furnished in writing or orally.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules or routines.
  • Intermediate skills in use of Microsoft Office products and ability to learn new software provided by parish.
  • Have a valid driver's license and be insurable.
