Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Director of Project Management Office - PMO (Remote) to join our growing team!

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Position Summary

As we continue to expand and scale our Nimble operations, we recognize the critical importance of effective Project Management to our success. To this end, we are seeking a highly motivated PMO Director to lead and transform our Project Management Office (PMO) into an enterprise-grade PMO. You will be instrumental in our journey towards implementing standardized practices, ensuring that our projects are efficiently and effectively executed to support our business growth.

You will have a small billable %, primarily used through oversight and management of the projects. Occasionally, it might be necessary to carry a project or cover projects. Your primary day to day consists of working through client escalations, improving our Project Management practice, and increasing our overall ability to hit projects on time and on budget.  This will require a significant amount of change management and process design. Joining our team as the Director of PMO provides a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on our organization's project delivery capabilities. If you are a proactive, results-driven, and strategic thinker with a passion for Project Management excellence, we would love to hear from you.

A Day in the Life

  • PMO Transformation: Lead the transformation of our PMO into an enterprise-grade PMO by implementing standardized practices and methodologies influenced by PMI standards.
  • Strategy and Planning: Develop and execute a strategic plan for the PMO, ensuring alignment with the company's objectives and goals.
  • Leadership: Provide strong leadership and guidance to the PMO team of ~6 including 2 managers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Resource Management: Allocate and manage resources effectively to ensure project success and delivery within established timelines and budgets.
  • PMO Standards: Establish and maintain PMO standards, processes, and methodologies that are compliant with industry best practices and PMI standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to monitor project performance and ensure deliverables meet the required standards.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Foster open and effective communication with stakeholders at all levels to ensure alignment and understanding of Project objectives and status.
  • Risk Management: Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate project risks and issues effectively.
  • KPIs and Reporting: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the PMO and provide regular reports to senior management.
  • Training and Development: Promote professional growth and development within the PMO team.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess and improve PMO processes and procedures to optimize project outcomes.

Key Partners:

You will work cross-functionally and closely with our Director of Service Engineering (Technical Development, Quality and Solution Architecture), our Director of Operations (Resource Operations, Data Forecasting, Planning & Financials), our Director of Business analysis, and others.  At times, you'll need to partner with our sales, support or customer success teams to deliver the best quality outcome possible for our clients.

You may not have all the listed experience or required skills and encourage you to apply anyway. We are looking for the right candidate that moves our goals forward rather than a "perfect fit" in terms of a skills checklist.

We are looking for someone who brings

  • Experience:
  • Requires 7+ years of experience in the related area as an individual contributor
  • Requires 5+ years of managerial experience, preferably in a senior manager, Director or Head of PMO role
  • Bachelor's degree in technical field or master's degree and/or certification in Project Management and/or equivalent related experience
  • Strong understanding of Project Management methodologies and best practices.
  • Experience designing and setting up a PMO
  • Experience working globally - although the PM team is currently US only, other parts of the business are global in nature.
  • Other Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization and follow up skills
  • Excellent relationship building skills and ability to work both individually and as a member of a team are necessary
  • Proven ability to manage large projects with exceptional Project Management skills
  • Ability to manage from the big picture as well as dig into the details when needed
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with keen ability to deal with detailed, and sometimes ambiguous, information
  • Excellent analytical skills with experience in information and data analysis, impact analysis, cost-benefit analysis, ROI, and globally integrated solutions with ability to interpret data to make fact-based decisions
  • Proven track record building successful relationships and partnerships at all organizational levels, internally, externally, intra and interdepartmentally. Strong client focus with exceptional collaborative and influencing skills
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines, to lead by example, willing and able to roll-up sleeves and dive into the details when necessary
