About the Role
Plus Power recruits outstanding energy industry professionals who are driven to develop, build and operate assets safely and reliably to decarbonize the power markets while growing their careers. In order for the global energy system to make the transition from a carbon-based grid, to a renewable energy grid, large scale energy storage must be introduced into the electricity system to balance intra-hour supply and demand. Energy storage is the enabler of high penetration variable renewable generation like solar and wind.
Plus Power is looking to hire a Director of Policy, West to join the External Relations team. This qualified individual will serve as a key resource in monitoring and advancing the company's policy and representation interests in the Texas/ERCOT market and U.S. West. The Director of Policy, West will work directly for the Chief External Relations Officer, but will collaborate across the organization to ensure effective strategy, process and execution.
Responsibilities
- Represent the company in policy or political meetings in ERCOT and several states in the U.S. West and contribute to corporate and project-related strategy and communications concerning the region
- Provide policy, political, and strategic advice on corporate matters to the company's various functional units, among widespread FERC and NERC rules, ISO regulations, and state policies
- Draft and negotiate energy market design proposals, working internally and with external stakeholders (e.g., competitors, trade associations, environmental and other stakeholders, policymakers, etc.)
- Monitor potential changes to the energy market rules and prepare and present to the company the market impacts of proposed or enacted policy changes
- Manage contracted regulatory attorneys or political representatives, as needed
- Support the analysis of, and response to, RFPs for energy storage projects
- Represent the company in state and local external affairs
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum BA/BS with a concentration in environmental, political science, or legal studies
- Minimum of 8+ years of energy policy engagement in the ERCOT market with demonstrated legislative or regulatory wins
- Stellar reputation in ERCOT and strong networks
- Experience in energy policy and networks in the Intermountain West a plus
- Self-driven with an engaging, creative, and collaborative approach
- Clear and persuasive verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to be persuasive, negotiate, and collaborate with individuals at all levels inside and outside of the organization
- Ability to prioritize and meet fast-moving deadlines without sacrificing the quality of work product
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex challenges
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team with an intentional team mindset
- Ability to master complex subject matter and effectively communicate technical information to the general public
- Eager to build and leverage internal and external relationships to help develop positions on key policy issues
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Compensation, Location, and Benefits
Highly-competitive remuneration from one of the nation's most exciting leaders in the energy storage markets. Flexible, work from home locations acceptable for the long-term, or hybrid work from Plus Power's offices in San Francisco or Houston.
The expected salary range* for this position begins at $160,000. Factors that may be used to determine the final compensation include relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographic labor market, and other factors consistent with applicable law. This position is also eligible to participate in our annual discretionary bonus program.
