Job description

Insomnia Cookies is looking for a Director of People & Culture to join our fast-paced & dynamic People Department. As our of Director People & Culture, you will have oversight to People Operations, Total Rewards & Benefits, and Organizational Development; implementing best practices, and driving efficiencies across HR processes. You will oversee matters relating to performance management, exit & termination management, as well as conduct escalated internal investigations. This role is based out of our Center City office in Philadelphia office and reports to the Chief People Officer.

Responsibilities:

    • People Operations
    • Facilitate and investigate employee-related complaints, make recommendations for resolution in partnership with leadership.  
    • Remain current on employment law through partnership with internal and outside counsel to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws.  Work with Field Leadership team to ensure compliance with all fair work week requirements. 
    • Partner with Legal team to develop and communicate policies and procedures while maintaining the Employee Handbook, revising, and updating as needed
    • Partner with Learning and Development leadership to build trainings that will address people leadership opportunities and foster a culture of living our values.
    • Lead and develop the People team and work closely with field ops and leaders in the Insomnia IWP Center (corporate headquarters).
    • Calibrate annual performance ratings to ensure consistency and alignment across the organization
    • Inspire a culture of celebration, appreciation and recognition at the IWP Center (hq) and store level to drive performance and motivate.

    • Total Reward & Benefits:
    • Review and recommend enhancements for Insomnia's compensation and benefits programs aimed at attracting and retaining talent in the field and IWP Center (HQ)
    • Partner with outside Broker(s) to provide strategic leadership to ensure Insomnia's benefit programs are cost effective, compliant and best in class.
    • Lead the annual performance management program, compensation review program and annual review of our bonus program
    • Lead the management of relationships with brokers, vendors and consultants (i.e. proposal negotiations, vendor agreements and evaluation of vendor performance)
    • Oversee employee leave documentation, reporting and policy

    • Organizational Development:
    • Communicate, launch, train and drive annual performance review process to ensure continuous development, growth, and feedback.  Partner with field leaders and department heads to ensure compliance.  Continue to improve the performance review process
    • Support the Leadership Team in shaping and reinforcing a culture that aligns with Insomnia's core values
    • Play an integral role on the Insomnia People Leadership Team
Desired Skills & Qualifications
    • 10+ years of demonstrated experience as a Senior People Leader, having driven People programs in a rapidly growing multiunit company
    • Experience working in a retail or QSR environment preferred but not required
    • Able to build strong relationships among team members and external vendors
    • Must be able to communicate effectively and often across the company
    • Able to work with a high degree of self-direction and flexibility, especially with taking initiative, prioritizing and problem solving
    • Experience developing and implementing best practices within the People function and across the company
    • Experience building a People team and implementing best practices.
    • Highly motivated, energized attitude that inspires others to seek higher levels of performance
