Job Summary

The Director of Parks and Facilities plans, directs, manages and establishes performance management indicators for the reporting staff. Oversees the development and ongoing maintenance of Rice County buildings, facilities and County Park Systems. The Director oversees the County vehicle fleet and programs, and Roberds Lake Sanitary Sewer District Operations. This position assures efficient operations in support of the optimum health, safety and productivity of Rice County employees and citizens, as the County’s Safety Coordinator. The Director prepares project specifications, annual and capital renewal, budgets. Consults with administration and elected officials on the direction of future County owned and operated facilities, parks, and Roberds Lake sewer operations.
Examples of Duties
- Directs and manages the operation of all County building facilities, campground and cabin rentals, equipment and programs.
- Oversees the physical assets of Rice County buildings by providing an environment that is clean, disinfected, providing a comfortable healthy environment which is free of hazards for county employees and the public.
- Directs the construction projects conducted on Rice County buildings and properties from start to finish.
- Establishes goals, objectives, and benchmarks for parks functional areas.
- Oversees, directs and implements the County’s Safety Program and Plans, as the County Safety Coordinator.
- Ensures public safety and security on all County-owned facilities and grounds.
- Manages the financial, operational and maintenance responsibilities of Roberds Lake Subordinate Service District.
- Oversees the operation and maintenance of the King Mill Dam.
- Develops long-range plans for the County related to the Facilities Department and land acquisition for the County.
- Prepares project specifications and conducts inspections of department equipment, including mechanical equipment.
- Oversees the planning, purchasing, repair, and maintaining of the County vehicle fleet and department vehicles.
- Works with Human Resources to manage and direct personnel functions of the Parks and Facilities department, including recruiting, training, and performance management.
- Addresses public groups to inform and promote the use of park and recreation programs.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: The job requires a Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering or related field, and three to five years of related facilities management experience or equivalent. A valid driver's license is required.
OR
A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate degree in Construction, Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, and three to four years in related facilities management experience or related experience in a similar position as listed in the essential duties.
