Position Summary
Responsible for development, management, and supervision of the Outdoor Program under the direction of the Director of Fitness, Wellness, and Recreation. Coordinate and facilitate outdoor trips, clinics, and workshops. Oversee outdoor recreation equipment rental program. Supervise and train student trip leader staff. Serve as an integral part of the Outdoor Education and Leadership academic program administrative team.

Oversee all areas of the Outdoor Program
Description
Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs to
continue to develop programming. Manage the Outdoor Program operations budget. Oversee and develop the outdoor gear rental program; oversee budget and purchase/repair/replace equipment as necessary. Provide overall risk management for the Outdoor Program including the drafting and use of policies, procedures, and waivers. Coordinate program assessment efforts, including participation data and learning outcomes. Oversee scholarship funds for the outdoor program, and work with advancement to secure further funding. Maintain and update the Outdoor Program website, including calendar of events, trip and event registration and information, photos, etc. Create professional marketing materials for Outdoor Program trips and events. Oversee student-led trips. This sometimes means being "on call" after hours for issues or emergencies that arise on student led trips.

Plan and implement a variety of Outdoor recreation and educational
events on and off campus that utilize local and regional locations. Develop and lead outdoor trips, including hiking, skiing/boarding, climbing, backpacking, etc. Coordinate and teach workshops/clinics. Work with the Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs to continue to develop outdoor programming and manage operation of the Indoor Climbing Wall, including hosting competitions, planning special programs, and hiring/managing student employees as necessary.

Description
Supervise and mentor the Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs. Clarify
and delegate program responsibilities to maximize efficiency and
strengths among the professional staff. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff for all areas of the Outdoor Program including: indoor climbing wall, gear rental, outdoor trip leadership, ski and snowboard collective, kayak roll sessions, and office management.

Description
Collaborate with departments on campus, both academic and
co-curricular, to develop programming for the Westminster community. Collaborate with community members to design and provide programming that fits with departmental and institutional priorities. Assist the FWRD professional staff with collaborative administrative duties, initiatives, and promotional events. Serve on University committees.

Work evening and weekend hours, as required. Respond on-call as
assigned. Serve on various committees as necessary, including Staff
Council, themed residence hall floors, etc. Attend division and
department meetings and committees as relevant. Other duties as

Periodic overnight travel may be required., Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required., Ability to respond on-call as assigned, including evenings and weekends is required., Valid drivers license and successful DMV check required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent of education, training, and experience.
  • Four years of experience in Outdoor Leadership, Parks and Recreation, or a related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before student groups or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to perform simple accounting functions associated with a budget. Ability to set appropriate pricing for outdoor program events.
  • Wilderness First Responder emergency certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Nationally recognized certifications and training in rock climbing, paddling, and/or other relevant outdoor activities
  • Master's degree
