Summary

The Director OSP Engineering & Field Operations will provide oversight, direction, and assistance to OSP Engineering and Installation Department to ensure quality communication facilities, adequate capacity and up to date services and features are available to all NANA Regional Broadband Network (NRBN) customers. Also, will provide input to specific Senior Management requests.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  Review proposed construction plans and schematic drawings to ensure that proposals are feasible, can be done in the time allotted and adhere to company specifications.

  Directs and coordinates the installation of telecommunications facilities.

  Directs the prioritization of projects proposed by each of the markets to establish engineering and project management staffing levels, training, tools, and software across all Business Units that will allow the project teams to achieve the Company's objectives with respect to given projects.

  Provide leadership to ensure proper investments in tools, processes, and people to deliver the objectives given by the Executive Team.

  Act as senior management to help settle disputes between Owner/Project Manager (Company) and the Contractor/Supplier/Customer to fairly settle project- related contractual and customer satisfaction issues.

  Report to Executive Management on all projects at regular intervals to inform management on issues and seek their counsel as required.

  Identify and lead the negotiations to select appropriate contractors (EPC, equipment suppliers, and outage labor) to support execution of Business Development and major maintenance projects.

  Provide leadership to ensure assigned staff successfully achieves Company goals and objectives.

  Must be able and willing to travel, as required, to job sites which may include the use of small airplanes and boats.  Must be able and willing to work on call during nights, weekends, and holidays.

  Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.

  Must be able to perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  Associate of Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline and fifteen years' experience in the telecommunications industry, OR a minimum of twenty years of experience in the telecommunications industry; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  A minimum of eight years' experience in a supervisory or project management capacity.

  A distinctive blend of business, IT, financial and communication skills (This is a highly visible position with substantial impact, including influencing and forming relationships with a wide range of partners including senior and executive management).

  Demonstrated experience in financial management principles as they relate to portfolio and project management and delivery of a business case.

  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and anticipate the needs of a changing landscape.

  Ability to articulate, drive, and ensure process standardization and adoption of best practices.

  Strong business acumen and experience working in a high growth, fast-paced, multi-product environment.

  Ability to translate business strategy into functional/operational plans and apply knowledge to the critical components of the function required.

  Expert problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions.

  Strong knowledge of Excel and highly skilled in PowerPoint and MS Project

  Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Requirements

  Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline and experience in the telecommunications industry preferred.

  CPR certification preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Description of environment: Outside. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Occasionally, the employee must work in severe weather conditions such as cold, hot, wet, or windy conditions. The work can be above ground level or below ground level and may be performed in winter or summer. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and risk of electrical shock. Although the job is generally performed outdoors, indoor work may be required, occasionally in cramped quarters.

Physical requirements:  Employee is required to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Yes. Must be able and willing to travel up to 50% of the time, as required, to job sites which may include the use of small airplanes and boats.
