Description of Duties:
SUNY ESF is seeking a full-time Director of Opportunity Programs to administer ESF's Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) and support the development and implementation of additional opportunity programming. Reporting to the Executive Officer for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, our next Director of Opportunity Programs will be student-centered, an advocate for the underserved and access to higher education, and a mentor to students engaged in Opportunity Programs.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide oversight, leadership, guidance, and resources for all aspects of the College's Opportunity Programs to support student success and graduation, including academic, career, social, financial, and personal advising, programming, support, and service to undergraduate students accepted into EOP and the LSAMP Program and additional Opportunity Programs as developed.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate all Opportunity Programs staff.
  • Promote College Opportunity Programs with faculty/staff, alumni, and other potential supporters to generate positive awareness and understanding of program outcomes and student benefits.
  • Measure and evaluate progression of programs' goals and contribute to the mid-year and end of year annual reports submission.
  • Provide oversight of assessment efforts including student, faculty, and other collaborative partnerships.
  • Provide oversight for required summer program experiences for EOP and LSAMP students in collaboration with Student Affairs and other institutional colleagues.
  • Coordinate directly with the Financial Aid Office and Bursar's Office regarding monetary award received by EOP students during the academic year.
  • Work directly with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to increase widespread knowledge of the program across the state, recruit students to apply, and stabilize incoming class size
  • Prepare the complete budget of the program(s), authorizing and administering all expenditures made by the program(s).
  • Attend state-wide SUNY system meetings regarding EOP as scheduled; attend LSAMP alliance meetings as scheduled.
  • Serve as the College's representative to the SUNY Office of Opportunity Programs and represent the College, relevant governmental bodies, the public, and the students.
  • Maintain compliance with SUNY Office of Opportunity Program guidelines
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the 5-week residential EOP Summer Program experience in collaboration with the EOP Counselor, Student Affairs, and other institutional colleagues.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least three years of prior experience working in a post-secondary setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate as a team member, and coordinate multiple responsibilities
  • Flexibility for evening and weekend work is required
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree with a minimum of five years related experience
  • Experience working with Opportunity Programs such as EOP, HEOP, SEEK, or TRIO
  • Experience developing, organizing and administering budgets
  • Experience using Technolutions Slate CRM, and Ellucian's Banner SIS
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Understanding of and appreciation for the ESF mission

Additional Information:
In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act" institutions of higher education are required to prepare an annual report containing information on campus security policies and campus statistics. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by SUNY-ESF; and on property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning sexual assault, and other matters.
